We loved hosting another sell-out 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁-𝗨𝗽 last week 🎉 A great afternoon helping nearly 30 attendees boost their 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, with Koen Veltman from OrganizationBuilders! 💪
We've been working closely with Koen the last few months to develop our own 'teamboosting' skills, both for our internal 7people ✨ team and to help level up our clients' teams.
So we knew first-hand how impactful Koen's sessions can be, and were really excited to share his expertise with the wider community. 🤝
After all, understanding how teams can effectively connect and collaborate together, and nurture a thriving purpose and culture, are all invaluable business and people (not 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 departmental 'People'!) skills to master. 🚀
It was a lively and interactive event, packed with fascinating insights, experiences and questions from the whole group. 🎓 We particularly loved the buzz around our office during the breakout sessions. Lots of small groups (armed with MANY colourful post-its 😎) worked together to brainstorm and share their ideas for boosting their teams' 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻. (𝘛.𝘌.𝘈.𝘔 - 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘵? 😉)
𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹? The famously elusive Dutch summer! 🌞 Closing off the day with pizza, drinks and more great conversations on our beautiful sunny balcony garden, was the perfect way to wrap up a great event 🍒

I planned Endear's first team-wide off-site in March. We brought 16 people to Williamsburg, BK. Here was the agenda that earned us a 9.7/10, plus my take-aways.

✅ Here’s what worked well:
-- 🗽We hosted in NY because about a third of our team is in the area, which saved us a bit of $$ and also allowed us to leverage our local knowledge
-- ☀️ We had the MOST amazing weather, which meant people were excited to walk around and people could gather outside for drinks any time
-- 💼 We spent about 50% of our time on work and 50% on fun local activities
-- 🏨 I managed to book The William Vale for a great rate through TeamOut (YC W22) - huge morale boost 😄
-- 🗓️ We hosted the offsite Wednesday thru Friday so folks could bring significant others and make a trip of it over the weekend
-- 📍 I followed Kara Zawacki's model and hosted everything in one central location, which gave folks a chance to get to know a corner of the city very well instead of jumping around from destination to destination
-- 👕 New team SWAG
-- 📊 We did a survey afterward to hear what people thought
🙅♀️ What didn’t work well:
-- 😰 I should have used TeamOut to organize everything - I thought I'd save money doing it all myself but they were spot-on with their prediction and they don't cost any extra. We got feedback that I seemed a bit overwhelmed (true) and planning limited my ability to participate in content
-- 🍔 I overfed everyone (whoops) - definitely didn’t need lunch right before a walking tour
-- 🧑💻 Some people wanted a chance to work on more low hanging fruit with their team in-person (which as a remote company is not something we get to do)
-- 🍽️ We had drinks the first night and the Improv show the second night so there was no actual team dinner
Overall getting together was a huge energy-boost for the team and everyone really enjoyed finally being face-to-face with their colleagues. Some of us have worked together for multiple years and have never been in the same room. I really valued people giving us their honest feedback afterward so we can improve the experience on the next go-around.
We will definitely be repeating the off-site and also encouraging smaller groups to get together on their own for a more intimate, team-specific experience.
Thanks to the entire Endear team for coming to NYC and making the off-site such a blast, I'm so grateful to work with all of you.
