The reason we put “density” in our comprehensive plans is to be able to count things to plan for public facilities like roads, transit, and water and sewer service. It is a poor indicator of a neighborhood’s character but is often used to define it. We can do better.

🌟 Did you know? 🌟 Agencies like the Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority (HWEA), Hopkinsville Electric System (HES), and Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise (Waste Management-WM) are NOT city departments. These local agencies employ non-city employees and are self-supported agencies, meaning they are not supported by tax payer dollars, but rather collect their own revenue through customer billing, etc. While the city collaborates closely with these local agencies, as well as others, only the Fire Department, Police Department, Public Works, and City Administration are city departments, staffed with city employees, and fully funded by taxpayer dollars. #Hopkinsville #CommunityAwareness #LocalGovernment #CityServices

📢 Important Updates on Water Billing System! 📢 In January 2023, the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) directed the Department of Public Works, Water & Sewerage Division (WSD) to enhance billing for customers, transitioning to a tiered billing system based on usage tiers. The WSD conducted a survey resulting in most customers opting for the tiered system. Below are important updates on this initiative: 📅 May 7: Join WSD's work session with BOCC to discuss recommendations for a new system. 📝 Submit questions/comments in advance to wsbilling@calvertcountymd.gov. 📅 May 16: Attend the fiscal year 2025 commissioners’ recommended operating and capital improvement budget public hearing to provide input on WSD's proposed tiered billing system. Do you know who’s responsible for the sewer system that drains your community? If you live anywhere in the State of Arizona—the answer is likely … YOU! You wouldn’t believe how many Homeowners Associations I talk to that don’t know this. It’s not their fault. Back in 2005, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) overhauled the laws pertaining to sewer ownership and a bunch of other vital water systems. In my opinion, they handled the roll-out for this information poorly. The bottom line is this: if you own a condo or townhome, or you’re part of a gated community in the State of Arizona, you likely have a privately owned sewer. 💧 💧 💧 Old pipes cause Texas cities to lose tens of billions of gallons of water each year— Texas’ most populous cities lost roughly 88 billion gallons of water last year because of aging water infrastructure and extreme heat, costing them millions of dollars and straining the state’s water supply, according to self-reported water loss audits. The documents show that bigger municipalities are not immune to water issues often seen in smaller, less-resourced communities around the state.
