Annual NPSTW Reminder: on the eve of National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, a gentle reminder to leverage the attention and joy of next week to connect with stakeholders and your community. Goodies and treats are nice (who does not love cake?) but getting attention for issues like staffing and retention; reclassification; and just general awareness of the critical role played by those under the headset is invaluable! So, be sure to invite the fire/police/ems chiefs, city council people, county commissioners, mayors and other community leaders to come have a piece of cake with your personnel. Give them the tour. Have them start to understand what your folks do. Take photos, post them on aocial media and tag them with some words of appreciation. Thats one of the best ways we have to move the industry forward and get things even better than cake!

Despite a week or so delayed by a bout of being under the weather, today I want to take a moment to recognize an indispensable group of heroes: our telecommunicators. Specifically, I want to highlight National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week and the amazing dedication of our Town of Cary 911 Center Staff, along with their counterparts around the globe. NPST week was about them—those who answer the call when someone dials 911—people whose voices are the first thread of hope in someone's worst moment. They are the unseen first responders, who act with empathy and precision to ensure that help is on the way. While I might have been indisposed during that particular week, this doesn't dampen the importance of acknowledging and appreciating their hard work. It’s their calm demeanor in emergencies, their ability to juggle multiple high-stress situations at once, and their willingness to be our lifeline that truly keeps our community safe. It doesn’t require a special week for us to remember how critical these professionals are, but it provides an occasion to explicitly say "Thank you" for all they do. To everyone working tirelessly behind the scenes at our Town of Cary 911 Center and telecommunicators across the world: Your contribution is immense. We see you, we appreciate you, and we honor your commitment to public safety. Your work does not go unnoticed or unappreciated, regardless of whether it's highlighted during a specific week or throughout every single day of the year. #PublicSafety #TelecommunicatorsWeek #911Dispatchers #TownofCary #FirstResponders #UnsungHeroes
