The concept of #publicspaces emerged with the parallel rise of the bourgeoisie and increased workers rights, granting us areas for leisure and community interaction. What defines public space for you? How do you envision these spaces evolving with more #leisuretime and enhanced #workerrights? #PublicSpaces #CommunityEngagement #UrbanRejuvenation #WorkLifeBalance #CommunityGathering #LeisureSociety #PublicRealm 📸 : Photo by Ross Sneddon on Unsplash

Social workers partner with people to address personal difficulties and structural barriers in their lives. They work with individuals, families, groups and communities. Social workers celebrate differences and the social work role itself is incredibly diverse. Social workers may support clients through: - one-on-one counselling and case work; - group work; - community development; - advocacy; - policy; - research and education. Social workers are trained to listen to people and support them to address personal difficulties and structural barriers in their lives. #WorldSocialWorkDay2024

Chapter. Completed. But the Purple Tuesday book has a long way to go. At least two or three more volumes. Six months shy of 17 years I first walked into Purple Towers as our office affectionately became known. Last Friday I said goodbye for the last time. But not to the vision it had helped shape. One of those you know where you were moments. Inconveniently my first daughter had arrived six weeks earlier than my planning schedule had allowed. I slipped out of the #Neonatal unit to meet my new staff and then went back to the hospital. Early experience of #HybridWorking. Supporting the integration of the outstanding #DisabilityRightsCommission into the new Equality and Human Rights Commission. While transitioning into my role as CEO of a user-led organisation two days a week. Did both jobs in the unit which becomes your amazing life community: staff, parents and the newborns whose progress can be measured as they move up places to nearer the exit door. With my newly acquired MBA I had planned a three year turnaround role to demonstrate the value of lived experience. And never left. Passion. Purpose. People. The culprits. On that low window sill in the photo I sat and envisioned an inclusive organisation where lived experience met allyship. The tent started to grow as we involved more in changing the disability conversation. Where the shopping centre experience became #PurpleTuesday and its focus on the disabled customer. And the 5:06am club. A group of staff, including Martin Smith, who worked until dawn to submit a contract tender that ultimately saved us from going under. Out of business. Success is never about bricks and mortar. But people. So the new office will never be an excuse. Goodbye and hello in the same breath. Memories. Yes. Motivation to kick on even faster. Do you really have to ask. Moving on Friday. #Office #Accessibility #Goodbye #Hello #DisabilityMatters #DisabilityConversation31 #BeASue Image Description: A split visual featuring two photos of Mike. The photo on the top shows Mike sitting on the low window sill in his office next to a purple door. The photo on the bottom is of Mike standing in one of the office meeting rooms in front of a large pile of boxes and chairs during the process of the office move. Both photos are surrounded by a dark blue border.

Reflective journal SCSH 2163: week 13 Improving fieldwork in community engagement involves several key strategies to enhance effectiveness and impact. First, thorough preparation is essential, including researching the community, establishing clear objectives, and understanding cultural sensitivities. Engaging with community members respectfully and actively listening to their perspectives builds trust and fosters collaboration. Utilizing diverse communication channels and involving local leaders and stakeholders ensures inclusivity and broad participation. Implementing feedback mechanisms and continuously evaluating and adapting strategies based on community input enhances relevance and effectiveness. Additionally, providing adequate training and support for fieldworkers in communication, empathy, and cultural competence further strengthens engagement efforts. By prioritizing these approaches, fieldwork in community engagement can achieve meaningful and sustainable outcomes that benefit all stakeholders involved.
