Lee & Low's 2023 Diversity Baseline Survey results indicate that interns continue to be more diverse than the industry as a whole. Of the interns surveyed in 2023, 63.8% identify as BIPOC—up from 49% in 2019; 55.2% are part of the LGBTQ+ community; and 27.6% have a disability. The challenge for the industry will be to both support the wide array of interns who have come into the field and to find a way to retain and promote these individuals in the industry that so desperately needs them. As we celebrate Pride Month, let's take a moment to reflect on the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in our workplaces and communities. Embracing DEI not only enriches our environments but also drives innovation and growth. This month, let's commit to learning more about the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community, to understanding the challenges they face, and to taking action in support of their rights. Let's use this time to start conversations that matter, to share stories that inspire, and to build bridges that unite. Together, we can create a world where everyone is free to be themselves and where equality isn't just a goal, but a reality. #PrideMonth #DiversityAndInclusion #EqualityForAll

Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Dedicated to Uplifting Underserved Communities and Individuals |Spirit aligned in redefining purpose to make life changing impacts
Be an ally. Be Kind. We ALL have one thing in common, we are all human beings first. Yet, so many different people continue to experience discrimination for a multitude of reasons. Financial wellness in the LBGTQ+ community face unique challenges and setbacks-- we all deserve to have access to financial products and services in an equitable environment. The 2024 LGBTQ+ Financial Wellness Report's key findings are a rude awakening that there is much work to be done for better financial inclusion. *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. Both BIPOC and younger (age 18-24) LGBTQ+ adults are even more likely to say they are financially unwell. *Three in ten (30.8%) LGBTQ+ adults say they have experienced discrimination while accessing financial services *Roughly half (48.15) of LGBTQ+ adults say they are financially unwell, compared to one-quarter (25.7%) of the general public. *Nearly 60% (59.7%) of LGTBQ+ adults have annual household incomes below $75,000. "The data underscore the need for our economic empowerment programs, especially for younger BIPOC LGBTQ+ folks. I hope the data are a call to action for organizations serving our community. Given what we know about who is struggling the most, these organizations have an opportunity to center BIPOC young adults by being culturally responsive, trauma informed, and offering voice and choice to young people.” Maruka Rivers, Director of Economic Empowerment Programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation How is your credit union being an ally? If not, reach out and get involved.
It has begun! June is here which means credit unions are ready to showcase the support of the LGBTQ+ professionals, members, and communities they serve all year round during CU Pride Month!
