With a profession that’s crying out for staff, and the chance to have a lasting impact on communities, should planning be in your plans? “Nearly all our students are employed in [urban and regional] planning well before they complete their degrees and often from the very outset … Some councils are even specifying in their job advertisements that applicants must be studying at UNE because they know our flexibility promotes full-time work and excellent part-time study.” Check out this piece (via the comments) on how UNE’s qualifications, including a new undergraduate certificate course, could set you on the path. #FutureFitYourLife #UrbanPlanning #RegionalPlanning #TownPlanning #LocalGovernment

📢 The list of "priority occupations" was a big surprise in the OINP’s latest round of invitations for international student graduates! 🎓 Here are some examples of the targeted occupations (with cut-off scores at 77): -11201: Management consultants -11101: Financial and investment analysts -12100: Executive assistants -11200: Human resource professionals -10022: Advertising, marketing, & PR professionals -52121: Interior designers/decorators -12103: Conference & event planners -13111: Legal administrative asssistants -21111: Forestry professionals -22211: Industrial designers -40021: Primary/high school principals -43200: Sheriffs and bailiffs -51120: Producers, directors & choreographers -41302: Ecclesiastical occupations 🤔I do not pretend to understand what's going on with the OINP. The occupation choices don't match any other labour market stories we've been hearing. However, I will celebrate the OINP's recognition that international student graduates across areas of study and occupations have much to contribute to Ontario and should be considered for permanent residence. 📰 That's my positive vibe from today's news story!😎 🏥 The final surprise is that the cut-off score for health occupations (81) was higher than for the other priority occupations (77)! Could this be because of the overlap with the #ExpressEntry health draw on July 5? 🤔

TEDx Speaker | Responsible Mining | Strategic Leadership | Talent Champion | Communications | Business Development
When Joanna Hodge, PhD, PGeo told me about another round of program cuts at Fleming College, I hoped she was joking. Unfortunately, she wasn't. This absence of skill-based education will negatively affect Canada's mining sector and critical minerals supply chain. The list of programs cancelled includes the following: - Business (Accounting, HR, Project and Supply Chain Management, Global Business Management) - Ecological Restoration - Ecosystem Management - Environmental Tech - Environmental Visual Communication (guts me to my core) - Fish & Wildlife Tech - GIS - Water Resources Management - HSE Compliance - Heavy Equipment Tech As an industry, we can't emphasize how much we need skill-based talent to build Canada's next phase of responsible resource development. Fleming College's decision is sad. #mining #education #postsecondary #skillbasedhiring
Fleming College has made unprecedented cuts to programming, allegedly in response to a significant reduction in international student visas. These cuts, in addition to those made in June last year, have particularly impacted the Frost Campus - the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences - which now no longer has an Environmental Technician program or a Geological Technician program, amongst many others that support environmental and natural resource industries (Fish and Wildlife, Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement, GIS, Ecosystem Management… the full list of recent cancellations is in the news article below). Community colleges, such as Fleming, are founded on supporting the Ontario Labour Market, and initiatives such as the Critical Minerals Strategy, or the Housing Action Plan, will require geoscience and environmental professionals - professionals that Fleming college have provided for the last 50 years but will not, going forward. I would love to hear from program graduates on how their Frost programs impacted their lives and careers. If you want to share a story please send me a DM or post in the comments. https://lnkd.in/g4tHcCVt

"We work to ensure Vida Verde students view nature as a place FOR them; a place they have a fundamental right to access to heal, grow, and explore, and a place that influences them as leaders to vote, act, and spend with the environment in mind." - Vida Verde Like so many of you, I started in academia through a love of camp. Environmental Education was an early outlet for my passion for the outdoors. That passion has grown to encompass the importance of farming, and growing your own food as a way to combat poverty, helplessness, and a lack of hope in an uncertain world. Sharing this with people who haven't yet experienced the wonder and grounding that comes with understanding how to live with the land cemented its importance in the world for me. Vida Verde is an exceptional program that provides FREE, overnight environmental learning experiences for students from our historically marginalized communities. These young students participate in a three-day, two-night camping trip as a class during the school year that takes place in San Gregorio, on Ramaytuch Ohlone land. If you're interested in a job with purpose, whose goal is to to positively and powerfully impact students’ academic performance, character development, and connection to the outdoors, then check out these opportunities. There is on-site housing, training, and you couldn't be working for a greater cause. https://lnkd.in/gW3nd7XU

For many of the surveyors in our network, university was the traditional, or for some the only, route into the profession. But university learning and campus life isn't for everyone, which is why vocational training is so crucial, especially in today's ever-evolving learning landscape. In FE News, Sava Director Hilary Grayson discusses the importance of seeing beyond a university degree, and explains why we created the Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation - an accessible, vocational route into the world of residential building surveying. One innovative idea that could make a positive impact on the environment and encourage outdoor activities on campus or in local areas is the implementation of a community garden initiative. By creating designated green spaces where students, faculty, and community members can come together to grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs, we can promote sustainability, healthy eating habits, and a sense of community. A great way to innovative an idea or project that could make a positive impact on the environment or encourages outdoor activities on your campus or in local areas are community gardens; Not only do they provide a source of fresh, organic produce but also serve as educational tools for learning about gardening, nutrition, and environmental stewardship. Additionally, they can help reduce food waste, promote biodiversity, and improve air quality in urban areas. By partnering with local organizations, businesses, and volunteers, we can establish and maintain community gardens that benefit both the environment and the well-being of individuals in the community. This initiative can foster a greater connection to nature, promote physical activity, and create a more sustainable and resilient campus and local environment. #Scholarship ScholarshipOwl Galen College of Nursing
