The 2023/2024 SickKids Foundation Innovators votes have been made! This year the Innovators have voted for Healing with Creativity (details below). We have also voted for next years theme (Keeping Pace with Technology). Being a SickKids innovator means extending my impact beyond a donation. We have now raised $3.1M to help fund 10 vital projects! We could always use more amazing people. So if you have any questions about my experience please dm me. If interested in being an Innovator contact Lindsay Tarvit. https://lnkd.in/gS_2asdj Healing with Creativity Children in hospital are grappling with a myriad of complex emotions. To help them cope during their stay at SickKids takes physical, mental, and emotional support. Creative Arts Therapy is a holistic approach that encompasses music, therapeutic clowning, virtual reality (VR), and art. Through our programs, patients forge trusting connections that distract them from the reality of being in hospital. Creative arts therapists help our inpatients assert control and autonomy over their fears, environment, and experiences. Keeping Pace with Technology Continuous investment in the latest medical equipment, technologies, and training is essential to deliver the highest quality healthcare. Yet, surgical teams at SickKids work around aging equipment in the OR. Our clinical staff push the limits of outdated tools and technologies. Frontline healthcare is demanding enough without this added stress. Despite the challenges, SickKids staff provide exceptional patient care thanks to rigorous training and simulation exercises. Keeping staff and equipment up to date is an enormous ongoing expense that’s not routinely covered by government funding. As we enter the precision era of healthcare, re-tooling and re-training is vital to keep SickKids at the forefront. Our staff must be equipped with precision technologies and trained to harness data and make clinical decisions safely, ethically, and equitably. SickKids is exploring ways to keep pace with the latest developments in training and technology.

In case you missed it, yesterday (4th of June) was the inaugural World Day for Assistive Technology, which is all about unlocking opportunities that are not possible without AT. But the outcomes we can achieve with AT are dependent on the quality of the prescription process. All steps are essential, but I wanted to highlight an important one in this post. With NDIS AT applications often taking 6 months to be processed at the moment, it can be easy to forget that the process doesn’t end when you submit the application. You need to do appropriate follow-up once the AT is provided, otherwise… The person is at risk of abandoning AT, when all that’s needed is some individualised adjustments or education on how to use it. You also won’t know whether you’ve actually solved the functional difficulty the person was having or not, until you give the new AT a test run. And you won’t know if you’ve done a good job, or learn what you might need to do differently next time, unless you can see those outcomes yourself. So next time you submit an NDIS AT application, put a reminder in your calendar for a month’s time to check on the progress of the application. And let’s face it, realistically, set it to repeat monthly for the next six months, and hopefully by then you’ll know the outcome and can do the follow-up. If you’d like to find out more about other good practice principles you should be applying when prescribing AT, check out the document shared by ARATAaustralia below – it’s worth a read! #OccupationalTherapy #AssistiveTechnology #NDIS #YourOTTutor #ARATAaus
The benefits of #assistivetechnology (AT) can transform lives. #ARATAaus believes in participation through #assistivetechnology – at school, at work, in sports, in life – by unlocking opportunities that are not possible without AT. Delighted to be shortlisted for finals of the All India Women-Only Hackathon '23. This hackathon has been an exhilarating journey, providing me with valuable experiences and new skills under time constraints. In emergency scenarios, quick access to appropriate medical care is crucial as delays can have severe consequences. However, late-night arrivals at hospitals can lead to further delays due to insufficient resources, equipment, or staff. This results in compromised patient outcomes. Navigating the complex and time-consuming admission process adds to the problem. The lack of standardized procedures for severity assessment and hospital matching leads to inefficiencies and suboptimal resource allocation in healthcare delivery. Our solution is EmergeXpert, an efficient and technology-driven app that connects patients or caregivers with hospitals based on medical symptoms. The app displays nearby hospitals meeting the necessary requirements within a specified timeframe with association of Google Maps and emergency call facility. Additionally, it facilitates blood requirement matching with blood-available hospitals and offers ambulance services in conjunction with respective hospitals. This ensures a timely and streamlined emergency response. Our app include language flexibility for three different kinds of interfaces -Hospital Admin,User,App Admin. We even store the history of the user with corresponding ratings. #hackathon #semifinalist Shooting Stars Foundation

📣 📣 ACTIPHONS NEW WEBSITE NOW LIVE 📣 📣 https://actiphons.com After many months of hard work, early mornings, late nights and lots and lots of research we are very pleased and proud to announce our BRAND NEW Actiphons website is now LIVE. Our mission from the start has always been simple..... 'To engage and inspire children to READ by using the POWER OF SPORT'. The innovation came from our children's love of sports and reading so we decided to mix the two together to create Actiphons 'ACTIVE PHONICS' which helps children learn their phonics through playing fun sports and physical activities. As we are very big on 'FAMILY' this project is no different, with all our children helping out from narrating our reading books, to appearing in our YouTube videos to trialing resources at home. Teamwork has definitely been key along the way with a number of other people and organisations too always on hand to help out and advise. From Penguin, Manchester United, Michael Wilson, David Butterworth from Manninvest to where it all started with Complete Control's Glynn Hayward many, many years ago. With many more supporters who have helped along the way (too many to mention). Anyway enough of my waffle if you get chance please take a look at our website to see what we have been up to and what we are trying to achieve plus it would be great to get any feedback (positive or negative) as it will only help us grow and be able to provide a better resource to help strengthen the 'READING CULTURE' and more 'ACTIVE LIFESTYLES' we strive to achieve. #readingculture #powerofsport #teamwork #alwayslearning

🎉 We have some exciting updates to share with you! Aparito, in collaboration with Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù and Martina e la sua Luna Onlus, has made remarkable progress in developing a groundbreaking app on Aparito's Atom5™ platform specifically designed to provide support for children and families living with hydrocephalus shunts. 📱Hydrocephalus shunts can sometimes pose serious challenges, leading to symptoms like headaches, vomiting, and drowsiness. But with the h2.0 app, we're changing the game! 📈 This incredible tool helps track the frequency and severity of these symptoms, ensuring real-time visibility for the clinical team. 💪 In the initial phase of this project, we interviewed and worked closely with 10 families who used the app for 30 days. The feedback we received was overwhelming! Their high scores and invaluable insights have played a pivotal role in refining the app further. 🎉 We're excited to announce that 30 more families will join us in using the H2.0 app for a period of six months. Together, we will create a truly remarkable tool that supports these children and their families. 👩⚕️Early user feedback is vital for the success of digital solutions like this, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the progress we've made so far. We are determined to reduce anxiety and uncertainty for families facing urgent shunt replacement decisions, and this research brings us one step closer to achieving that goal. 👇 Tap the link below to learn more about this incredible project https://hubs.li/Q028F_G00

Despite the trajectory of growth that Kesem has experienced since 2010, our efforts have only begun to scratch the surface of the need for families impacted by a parent's cancer nationwide, and we know there is more work to be done to meet demand in a way that is equitably accessible to all. Our Insights Paper, "Deepening Our Understanding to Expand Our Impact," outlines our several-month journey to gather insights and data that would thoughtfully inform how we can reach families impacted by a parent's cancer who are not being supported by our programs while also reinforcing service for current Kesem families - including a strategic planning survey, ethnographic research, community impact mapping, and more. These findings would ultimately serve as the framework for three leading concepts for new program modeling in the coming year. Our ability to expand, innovate, and invest in giving children better outcomes for a lifetime is only possible through your generosity and support—learn more about how your company or organization can share our research, create a corporate grant or alliance, or sponsor matching gifts in support of our new program models by visiting our latest Insights Paper at https://kesem.co/46afy9L. #NonProfitSupport #CorporateSocialResponsibility #CorporatePartnership #CorporateAlliance #CancerResources #CancerSupport #DEI
