In May, our Anchorage office collaborated with Grow North Farm, which works to empower and support refugee and immigrant-owned food businesses. DWT volunteers worked together to maintain and protect the farm by weeding, spreading wood chips, and building new work areas. Thank you, Scott Broadwell, Caitlin Forbes, Sarah Gillstrom, Jean Rosston, Barbara Simpson Kraft, and Anne Marie Tavella, for your dedication to our planet and our communities!

Inclusive Marketing Expert & Consultant 👋🏾 | Supporting Brand Leaders in Creating Impactful and Inclusive Work via My Consultancy, Backstory 🤝 | 10+ Years of Inclusive Marketing & Storytelling ✨
This is what *equitable* partnership looks like. I’ve long been a fan of the work Evelynn Escobar has done with Hike Clerb Inc, and their upcoming collaboration with The North Face is the perfect example of an industry great teaming up with an impact organization to let them create on *their* terms. Many of our brand clients at Backstory Consulting come to us looking for ways they can equitably support the work of non-profits and charitable organizations. Doing so requires a special mix of thought, strategy, and intention that’s hard for most brands and companies to do on their own. 💡 We always recommend starting with: 1. Identifying 3-5 causes you can responsibly and sustainably support 2. Identifying organizations and non-profits already doing great work in that space 3. Partnering with an impact agency or consultancy (👋🏾) to develop an equitable outreach strategy Please support the amazing work Hike Clerb Inc is doing, and this forthcoming collaboration! Impact matters. #impact #DEIB #inclusivemarketing #brandcollaborations #brandstrategy
Seven years of planting the seeds 🌰, nourishing community 🌱and putting in the work 🤝🏾, we’re reaping the fruits of our harvest. 🤲🏾 The North Face x Hike Clerb Inc 4.9.24

How will we prepare for a future with less water and more people in the West? How do we protect our local food systems, farmers and farmland, and our rivers and streams, as cities grow? The Palmer Land Conservancy is working on this challenge in Pueblo County, Colorado, and the plan they've developed with the community there is promising. Learn more here in this story from Jacob Lebsack: https://lnkd.in/gyi5cnWW Pictured: The city of Pueblo, looking west.

Senior Agricultural Policy Analyst - Agriculture Victoria - Department of Energy, Environment & Climate Action
Small-scale producers face several challenges, including limited access to abattoirs for processing livestock. Other challenges for small-scale producers include land availability and affordability, access to markets, and regulatory barriers. Despite these challenges, the small-scale farming sector in Victoria continues to thrive, driven by passionate producers who are committed to sustainable farming practices, community engagement, and delivering high-quality products to consumers. The results and recommendations from the Small Farms Count survey will hopefully provide a greater understanding to policymakers on how to support this important sector's successful growth, prosperity and resilience. The more small-scale farmers and those intending on farming that fill in this survey, the better. The need for reliable data is real.
Young Farmers Connect is conducting the Small Farms Count Survey, and they need all small farm owners, employees, volunteers, and aspiring small farm farmers to partake. This anonymous survey is easy to complete and will only take around 10 minutes of your time. By participating in this survey, you will help gather crucial information that can provide insights into the challenges and opportunities small farms face. The data collected will also provide visibility across the entire sector. https://lnkd.in/eRk6SnET

"Civil society organisations are unique partners in their capacity to represent, empower and defend local populations. On World NGO Day, we recognise and celebrate all non-governmental and nonprofit organisations, the people behind them, and the valuable contribution they make to society." - EU Partnerships We couldn't agree more! CEPF was formed to champion #biodiversity by delivering the financial resources of global donors to civil society groups, who then carry out the conservation work themselves. Enabling civil society organizations to participate in, and influence, the conservation of the world's biodiversity hotspots is the hallmark of CEPF's approach. https://lnkd.in/eSXqreGp

Understanding the Hostile Environment is the first step to dismantling it. 🔧 Earlier this year, we worked with Divest Borders Leeds and Migrant Action on a community engagement event aimed at understanding the day-to-day realities of the Hostile Environment and building strategies to counter it and combat its effects. Check out the full write up of our discussions of how community resilience and acts of resistance can build a path to a better future! 👇 https://lnkd.in/eJsEEJCN

Hot off the press! 🔥 Our latest blog post considers the ever-present issue of power imbalances. Addressing these imbalances requires recognition of community rights over land and resources, then creating locally adapted governance systems to manage those resources sustainably. Reflecting on the Community Conservation Horizon Scan by Nafeesa Esmail and colleagues and the recent report from Maliasili on a related topic. https://lnkd.in/ePYBBV_G

Looking forward to reading this report! ———————————————————————— “The Barriers to Federal Investment in Rural Communities report identifies potential strategies individual agencies could undertake to creatively address current barriers to rural access to federal resources, including proposing initiatives for the Appalachian Regional Commission, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Economic Development Agency. Additionally, we propose leadership initiatives that the Office of Management and Budget and that Interagency Councils and Working Groups could undertake to increase federal transparency and improve access to federal funding for rural, coal-impacted communities.”
