EuXFEL Management Board Retreat Recap: Inspiration by Pioneers and Visionaries I am currently sitting in a train back from Switzerland and am stilled thrilled by the remarkable experience we had during the recent retreat of the European XFEL Management Board. This gathering brought together the current Board Members and our new Chair, Thomas Feurer, succeeding Robert Feidenhans`l on January 1, 2024. The retreat was an enlightening event that left all participants ready to tackle the societal challenges of the future with the outstanding talents and scientific capabilities of the European XFEL. The discussions were marked by an atmosphere of collaboration and synergy, fostering an environment where ideas and strategies could flourish. A significant source of inspiration was the captivating narratives of two pioneers and visionaries, Daisy Voog (first woman to ascent the Eiger North face) and Adolf Guyer-Zeller (entrepreneur and initiator of the Jungfrau railway). Their experiences provided valuable insights into overcoming obstacles and embracing innovation. By exploring their journeys, we were inspired to think beyond conventional boundaries and approach challenges with fresh perspectives. Moreover, our discussions at the High Altitude Research Station Jungfraujoch added a historical significance to our gathering. The research station has long served as a symbol of international collaboration, attracting scientists from around the world. Its unique position atop the Jungfraujoch, has facilitated groundbreaking research and scientific discoveries, while also acting as a bridge between nations and cultures, reminding us that by working together, we can achieve remarkable feats and overcome the greatest challenges. It symbolizes the power of #collaboration and the potential for scientific #excellence to transcend borders and build bridges. In summary, our retreat was a transformative experience and perfect occasion for the onboarding of the next Chair of the Management Board we would like to #transparently share with our community.
