How many people heat their water with electricity at the moment? 9%? Average U.K. household uses on average 12000kWh of gas per year, equates to about £3000 more in electricity. 81% will have to use immersion to heat water for heating, showers, baths, etc. Or convert and buy a new air or ground heat pump. That’s a lot of homes and heat pumps, can we grow these in the garden? Department for Energy Security and Net Zero 🤥😳

Chris Stark is certainly respected because of his work auditing performance in the energy sector. However, it would have been good to see someone from the private sector actually leading energy policy in the UK for a change. Too many times someone from the public sector is appoint to such positions which means the government does not get to the heart of the problem, which is usually poor energy policy created by the people actually put into the positions to make energy policy. It is hard to kick your own ass. For example, encouraging the Scottish Government to hit unrealistic renewable targets early during a cost of living crisis was a nonsense. The priority in the UK needs to be the energy consumer and not renewable energy at any cost. Hope the new government prove to be more balanced in their approach to energy policy.

With all the new housing targets being launched and changes in Planning then all New Developments should be required to include appropriate Environmental Technologies, PV, Solar Hot Water, Ground Source Heat Pumps(why not Community heating systems from central heat source), Rainwater Harvesting etc. all included at design stage. The use of these technologies will assist in reducing running costs for owners and of course help the Government to meet it's Environmental Targets. With over 100 centres(originally set up by the Industry Government Partnership by NSAforET in 2010-2014) offering training for upskilling the existing workforce and Apprentices then this Government should be maximising and encouraging additional skills training.

Need to be clear. Clean power by 2030 - what does that mean? Power is the rate of transfer of energy - electrical, thermal, chemical etc. Presumably this is only referring to electrical power. Clean - presumably this means no use of fossil fuels or does it mean completely no GHG and any other harmful emissions? Is this target to completely decarbonise the electricity used across all of the UK, by all domestic, commercial and industrial consumers by 2030. Presumably this means on or before the 1st Jan 2030. Does it mean renewable energy providing all UK electrical power demand 24/7, everyday for ever from 1st Jan 2030? Or will the target be deemed to have been reached if that happens for 1 hour, on 1 day sometime in 2030? I would like to see a clear definition of what this ambition and target is so that we can judge if it has been met.

Is an engineer appointed as an advisory on this? I respect leadership but a failed PM is not my expectation for cost effective delivery and implementation. Would the state kindly furnish this man with someone of expertise for relevance please? I'm not been a mouthy d%ck it's just due process. It will probably save some money too. He doesn't need to give credit once. I would just sleep better knowing someone is doing a relevant job.
