It's worth noting early a change to the approach to commissioning dates: an application won’t be eligible if made for a system which has been commissioned more than 120 days ahead of the application. Previously (currently), there is no time limit. The date for the introduction of this change is not yet clear, but it's vital that installers do not miss this one, when it comes.

The increase in Boiler Upgrade Scheme from £5000 to £7500 is very welcome and hopefully will make heat pumps and option for a much wider range of end customers. I don't know if there is a 'good' way to manage increasing the grant through - someone will always miss out on it whatever cut-off date you put in. If you put in the change too far in the future then you risk the installations all being delayed while customers wait for more subsidy. Any vouchers already redeemed - unfortunately the customer has missed out. But, in case you weren't aware the increased grant is applicable to vouchers applied for from the 23rd of October and you can withdraw any vouchers you haven't yet redeemed and apply for a new one. So you can do an install between now and 23rd of October and retrospectively apply for the increased BUS but I understand this will be a bit of a cashflow headache for smaller installers especially. Could the government have handled this better, or is this the least painful option?

New proposals to scrap planning red tape for the installation of heat pumps in the UK will be a big breakthrough for the industry and consumers – but more policy changes are needed. In England and Wales, customers currently have to wait months to receive planning permission from local councils before they can replace gas-burning boilers with new environmentally-friendly heat pumps. However, in Scotland, most heat pump installations do not require planning permission and you don’t have to notify your electrical supplier, which has been a great advantage to the Scottish market.

We are disappointed to see that the Government has decided to remove minimum insulation requirements from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Minimum insulation requirements are vital to: · Protect residents from high energy prices · Increase the efficiency and reduce the running costs of heat pumps · Reduce the cost of future electricity grid expansion The high electricity to gas price ratio means that insulation measures which reduce energy demand and bills are critical to ensure an affordable and just transition to electrified low carbon heating. With energy prices set to remain high for years to come, a fabric-first approach is the best way to safeguard residents from unaffordable heating bills. Retaining the minimum insulation requirements in BUS would enable residents to benefit from cheaper energy bills and warmer, healthier homes in the long term. https://lnkd.in/e6nuicHW

Keep warm this winter🧣 High-efficiency boilers, also referred to as condensing boilers, use a lower stack temperature than the standard conventional boiler to capture escaping air and redirect it back into the house. With a standard boiler, only 80% - 85% of energy gets used, while a condensing boiler uses up to 96%! That's up to a 16% savings to your bank account. High-efficiency boilers also offer installation flexibility. Due to the lower heat, it could be vented through a PVC, CPVC, or even a flexible pipe. They are also much lighter and smaller and can be hung on a wall. This gives many more options of where to place it. Replacing domestic heating gas and oil boilers with heat pumps is not a solution it creates an even larger problem. The 25 million heat pumps would drive peak electrical load to a value eight times its present level. IMPOSSIBLE TO GENERATE Using every possible existing means of generation!

What pressure is your boiler operating at? Steam pressure has to be high enough to deliver the required flow of steam to steam users, return condensate to the boiler room at the required rate and to ensure that the temperature of the steam is high enough to achieve required heat transfer rates. Steam pressure is typically regulated to lower pressures than the boiler pressure at points closer to point of use. The point of this post is to highlight that in some cases there is opportunity to reduce steam pressure with no ill effects, an example of what we call a "no-cost" opportunity. This results in reduced fuel usage, emission reductions, and reduced water use. Generating steam at lower pressures has a number of efficiency benefits: *Lower saturated liquid temperatures in the boiler can increase heat transfer rates, reducing stack losses. *Lower saturated liquid temperatures in the boiler will reduce the energy contained in each unit of boiler blowdown - there will therefore be savings even if blowdown practices remain unchanged. *Lower saturated liquid temperatures may permit the use of higher conductivity triggers for blowdown, reducing the volume of blowdown required. *Lower steam distribution pressures will mean lower steam header surface temperatures and hence reduced heat losses. Steam headers should always be insulated, but there are often some sections that are not. There would also be losses from hot fittings in the distribution system. *Lower steam distribution pressures will reduce losses due to leaks. *Where there are unregulated steam uses, lower boiler pressures will mean lower condensate pressures and hence reduced flash losses when this condensate is returned to the hotwell. This not only increases the feedwater temperature, it also can reduce the blowdown rate. Take care when reducing steam pressures. Do so in small increments with extensive monitoring as you go. Too low a pressure can affect steam users adversely, affect condensate return and also cause problems like carryover of liquid at the boiler. Take time to understand the unique risks at your facility before proceeding. This is however an opportunity to be explored, particularly where the pressure is obviously higher than it needs to be. #sustainablecostreduction

1moGood evening, I would like to know when I would be paid for a project that provides efficiency, resilience, with coverage for other systems, without having to participate in these competitions or registration programs, as I saw that nothing was presented in this sense, but it is a project effective, and differentiated, yet resilient and comprehensive and adds the requested properties?.
