The team paid a visit to the M/T BITFLOWER at Falkvarv AB - the Swedish shipyard nestled in Falkenberg, Sweden. The purpose of this visit was crucial as it involved an in-depth inspection and comprehensive 3D-scanning to finalize the vessel's deck design. We understand the significance of precision in engineering, and that's why the team left no stone unturned in capturing all the necessary measurements. This step is pivotal to ensure a seamless integration of innovative technology into marine operations. Furthermore, the visit played an important role in conducting essential risk and safety assessments. Old is valuable. When something stands the test of time it always has a story to tell. In our line of business, we are very future-driven, but we also work systematically to ensure our equipment remain in good condition and continue to serve customers for as long as possible. Adding life-cycle value is a key sustainability goal in our business. We set out to find the oldest operational Konecranes crane and ended up in the port town of Rauma, Finland where we found the K141 crane – in operation since 1938 at energy company Rauman Biovoima. It is the oldest Konecranes crane still in use that we found, but let us know if you know of an even older one! The first job for the K141 was at a power plant generating electricity for the surrounding mill and town by burning wood waste, and its role in the turbine hall lasted five decades. This crane isn't just a piece of history; it's a living example of how robust engineering and maintenance can contribute to the digitalization of industry and technology transformation. Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. Co Ship Management (KMTC SM) is implementing Accelleron's Tekomar Xpert digital solution to optimize engine performance across its container ship fleet. The initial adoption on 12 Panamax ships has resulted in a fuel cost reduction of US$540,000 and a decrease of 4,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions. With an expected annual saving of approximately US$1.3 million, KMTC SM plans to extend Tekomar Xpert to its remaining vessels and recommends its adoption on third-party managed ships. The move aims to enhance engine efficiency, lower lifecycle costs, and mitigate exposure to carbon pricing.
