Scotland can play a key role in meeting the growing green hydrogen demand in Europe, the Minister for Energy and the Environment Gillian Martin will tell a conference in Brussels. During a visit to Belgium over European Hydrogen Week, Ms Martin will today deliver a keynote speech at a high level policy conference attended by leaders in the energy sector. She will also take part in a discussion on the Wellbeing Economy, and conclude the two-day visit with a tour of the port of Antwerp-Bruges and a meeting with leading ScotWind partner DEME Group. Ms Martin said: “We want to work in partnership with our European neighbours to accelerate the transition to green energy, and this trip is an opportunity to highlight the contribution Scotland could make to the EU’s energy and climate ambitions. “Scotland is well-placed in terms of proximity and infrastructure, with the potential to produce over 3 million tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2045, including up to 2.5 million tonnes for export. To realise this vision we are currently developing a Hydrogen Sector Export Plan which will be published early next year. “We have already signed a number of international agreements on hydrogen - including with Denmark, Occitania and German states – and we’re keen to progress more. I look forward to cementing existing relationships with European partners and developing new ones, to show what Scotland can do for the green revolution.” #euh2week #hydrogen #greenhydrogen #energy

"Green Deal, Sustainable Trade and Turkiye's Integration" - Jean Monnet Module / Project Coordinator: Prof.Dr. Rana Atabay Kuşçu
🌿“The energy sector is leading the way in Europe’s decarbonisation and emissions reduction, and we must continue on this path towards 2040. In the 2030s we should see major progress in the transition away from fossil fuels, and an increasing share of renewables in our energy mix. We are sending a clear signal to investors that Europe is staying the course and offers them long-term predictability and stability. For our citizens, we are giving a clear sign that cleaner solutions are on the way, and that we are accompanying them in the transition.”🌿 Prof.Dr. Rana Atabay Kuşçu Medipol University European Union Delegation to Türkiye European Commission #greendeal #sustainability #jeanmonnet #environment #europeanunion🇪🇺 #hydrogeneurope

Great to see that Bellona Europa used #CaptureMap to illustrate the potential for carbon capture in their consultation response on France’s CCUS Strategy! => 📄 Bellona's response here: https://lnkd.in/dHaswTud => 🇫🇷 France’s CCUS Strategy there: https://lnkd.in/eYVu4Pf6
Today our Director Jonas M. Helseth presented Bellona's view on how to decarbonise Europe's industry, at the 2024 French-Norwegian Green Industry Forum in Paris. At the Forum organised by Innovation Norway, French-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, and the Norwegian Embassy in Paris, he stressed the importance of ramping up renewable energy and using it efficiently to decarbonise the European economy. We need grids to move electricity from where it is produced to where it's most needed. However, our Director also warned for false decarbonisation narratives that rely on huge amounts of renewable electricity, like hydrogen, unless it comes along with realistic plans to build all the required renewable capacity. ⚡️🔄 Helseth emphasised that French and European industry will need plenty of CO2 capture and storage, even if direct electrification must take care of the lion's share of emissions reductions. 🏭🔍 With limited storage, decarbonising our economy will require us to prioritise where to best spend public money. 💰🌱 Bellona's CCS Ladder that we co-produced with E3G assesses the climate value of different CCS application in 2030 and in 2050: https://lnkd.in/dHWc32DH See also Bellona's input to the French government's CCUS Strategy (in French) ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dCAUQDZA In English, below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dHaswTud Heidelberg Materials #CCS #CCS4NetZeroIndustry #RenewableEnergy #CO2Infrastructure

While the majority of the EU's GHGs comes from the electricity grid, France & Germany are aiming to decarbonize their power systems by 2035. Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU, has signed up for the 2035 plan called the 'Pentalateral Energy Forum'. According to Statista in 2022 the EU approximately produced 2.73 billion metric tons of CO2. And in Q4 of 2022, the GHG emissions in the EU (only in 23 countries) fell down by 4% which is quite remarkable. the Benelux Union brings an insightful report "Building blocks for a common vision for a decarbonised electric system in the Penta region"👇 https://lnkd.in/eWUKB9Aw Insightful information by Statista & Eurostat 👇 https://lnkd.in/ecymPRED. https://lnkd.in/eAPE7pYP In 2022, 22.5% of energy consumed in the EU were from renewable sources according to the European Environment Agency early estimates. The growth was largely driven by solar power. In 2030 the target is to increase it to 42.5% which will require to multiply the renewable energy capacity👇 https://lnkd.in/eP6R_YH2. While China is leading in the renewable energy sector still around 70% of the country's energy comes from fossil fuels, according to an article by Reuters👇 https://lnkd.in/ev2uY889 Progress is progress no matter how slow, but this time it's a rush. To prevent trillions of dollars in losses in the long-term we need to hurry the energy transition, to avoid further climate catastrophes. #germany #france #europeanunion #esg #sustainability #renewablenergy #pentalateral #netzero #netzerotransformation #netzero #greeneconomy
