ENERGY EFFICIENCY - AN INSIGHT: The word "Energy Efficiency" is very popular nowadays. It is freely available in most of the energy using applications and achievable through hard and dedicated works. This being an unknown treasure, a concrete planning helps for a maximum recovery. A wise approach shall be in locating the presence of energy wastages through functional understanding of the applications. Prior to jumping on recovery, a program to understand the potential of energy efficiency in any given energy services in a justifiable and verifiable manner for a satisfied maximum recovery shall be practiced. Because any under achievement less than the potential may result in continuance of energy stupidity in that services. How can we fix and arrive a limit, to satisfy and conclude such arrived value as a maximum or potential energy efficiency?. In order to understand maximum energy efficiency, beyond science nothing can be found for acceptance. I will only be satisfied once Nations are honoring and placing the sustainable energy saving achievements along with energy capacity addition to strengthen energy security.

I was delighted to take part in the Conférence de Paris organized by the International Economic Forum of the Americas, where I had an engaging discussion on the challenges of and path to decarbonization, alongside Nicolas Notebaert, Arnaud Pieton, and Jérôme Stubler.   On stage, we reviewed the key pillars of this green transition, which is mandatory for the industrial sector if we are to reduce our GHG emissions, currently at 53 Gt per year.   First, there are existing levers that address about 60% of these emissions: 🔸 Changes in business models, industrial practices, and behaviors, which account for 10% of emissions reductions; 🔸 The development of existing technologies that are already mature or in the early adoption stage, such as wind turbines, solar power, recycling processes, etc.   For the remaining 40%, we need to focus on new green technologies, divided into 2 categories based on their Technology Readiness Level (TRL): 🔸 High TRL (4 to 6: demonstration): hydrogen electrolyzers, fuel cells, carbon capture, utilization & storage (CCUS). 🔸 Low TRL (1 to 3: research, prototype): SMR, direct air capture (DAC), synthetic fuels, synthetic biology.   This was a great opportunity to remind ourselves that this transition is a major concern for all, but also a chance for Europe to take its place on the international stage of industrialization. Considering that 90% of greentech components are currently manufactured in China and the Asia-Pacific region, stabilization of the supply chain – also in terms of raw materials - is essential for Europe and our sovereignty.   There is need for rapid action and reinforcement, in terms of both funding and talent development. It is estimated that $25 trillion can be generated by 2040, and 2.4 million jobs created in Europe by 2030 through talent development.   We need to turn risks into opportunities.   Thank you, Charlotte Kan, for moderating this discussion.    #ConfPARIS
