May marks Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, a time to honor the rich history, contributions, and cultures of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders in the United States. This month holds significant historical relevance, dating back to 1978 when a week-long celebration was expanded to a month-long observance. From the laborers who built the Transcontinental Railroad to the leaders in arts, sciences, and politics today, AANHPI individuals have shaped the fabric of American society in profound ways. Yet, this month is not only about acknowledging the past; it's about recognizing the present struggles and triumphs of AANHPI communities. Today, AANHPI Month carries particular relevance as we stand in solidarity against discrimination, xenophobia, and hate crimes targeting these communities. It's a reminder to celebrate diversity, amplify AANHPI voices, and work towards a more inclusive future for all. Join us as we honor, celebrate, and advocate for the AANHPI community this May and beyond. 🌺 #AANHPIMonth #AsianAmerican #PacificIslander #Inclusion #TheFolkeInstitute

Every year, "International Day of the World’s Indigenous People" is observed on August 9 to raise awareness and preserve their needs. On this World Day of Indigenous People, let's celebrate the rich cultures and traditions of Indigenous communities around the world. Dnet celebrates the power and potential of Indigenous youth as agents of change for self-determination. To align with this, this year's theme, "Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-Determination," is an important reminder that young people have a critical role to play in shaping the future of Indigenous communities and in promoting social justice. We must prioritize the voices and experiences of Indigenous people in all of our work. As we celebrate the resilience and diversity of Indigenous people, let's also commit to breaking down barriers to communication and understanding and promoting equity and inclusion for all communities. Together, we can build a more just and equitable world for all.

❓ Did you read our CEO's piece on the Third Force News? ⚖ Reflecting on diversity and #inclusion in the #thirdsector across #Scotland, our CEO Emma Hutton ponders: "How can we rethink our internal practices to remove intersecting barriers to people joining our board and our staff team? How can we collect and monitor the right data? How will we know when we’re getting this right?" She continues: "For us, and for me personally, intersectionality is definitely more than just an academic concept or buzzword – it needs to become our way of life." 🗣 We need to start a conversation with "others across the third sector who feel the same way." 🔍 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/e4jgqzWw
Some personal reflections from me on our efforts JustRight Scotland to take an intersectional approach to what we do, and how we do it 👇🏼 With deep thanks to Talat Yaqoob FRSE Yaqoob for her guidance and wisdom along the way 🙏

Honouring Juneteenth: A Day of Reflection and Renewal 🇺🇸 Today, we pause to commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history that marked the end of slavery and the beginning of a long journey towards true freedom and equality. This day represents the resilience, perseverance, and unwavering spirit of those who endured the cruelties of slavery, and their determination to forge a better future. As we reflect on Juneteenth, we acknowledge the profound impact of slavery and its lasting effects on our society. It is a reminder of the ongoing struggle for racial justice, equity, and the recognition of the inherent dignity and worth of every human being. At Orion, we embrace diversity as a source of strength and inspiration. We strive to create an inclusive environment where all voices are heard, valued, and respected. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of understanding and empathy. In observance of Juneteenth, our Houston and Chicago offices will be closed today and we resume normal business tomorrow. #RacialJustice #Diversity #Inclusion #Equality

It's National Reconciliation Week This year’s theme is ‘Now More Than Ever’ and it's a great reminder for us all to reflect on our roles in advancing reconciliation in Australia. WSMRC acknowledges and commits to learning and understanding more about the histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Let's take this time to listen, learn, and act. Here are a few ways we can contribute: 1.Educate ourselves about the histories and cultures of First Nations peoples. 2.Support Indigenous businesses and artists. 3.Engage in meaningful conversations about reconciliation. 4.Attend local events and show solidarity. Every action counts in building a more just and equitable society. Let's make a difference, now more than ever.
