FSMA Spotlights Webinar! Date : 4/7/24 Time: 11:00AM CEST Register here: https://lnkd.in/dSDHHRFR Webinar Description: The potential value of the sanitation economy in low- and middle-income countries is very considerable, but business opportunities are currently limited. In order to promote investment opportunities and engage investors, an understanding is needed of the investment readiness of sanitation from the perspective of both public funders and private financiers. The SANEMAT attempts to answer key questions these investors might have to make their investment decisions, and identify aspects of the enabling environment that need to be strengthened in order to attract more investment. A maturity score for the sanitation economy can also be generated for a range of 'pillars' and summated into an index. The tool is based on a range of indicators - some of which have data regularly collected and reported, and others which need interviews with key informants or additional studies. A first proposal for the SANEMAT has recently been circulated to a range of partners to collect feedback until mid-July, before the tool is prepared for pilot testing. This webinar forms part of the process for informing partners and receiving feedback. Speakers: Guy Hutton- Independent Consultant Guy Hutton is a development economist with a PhD in economics from London University. He currently works as an independent consultant, based in the United Kingdom. In 2023, he set up a consulting company “Innate Values Ltd” (www.innatevalues.com) Dominic O' Neill, SHF Executive Director Mr. Dominic O’Neill joined UNOPS in September 2020 to lead with the setup of the new Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF). Join the FT Live Webinar | Achieving Food Security in the Middle East Achieving #foodsecurity in the #MiddleEast requires a transition to a more resilient and competitive domestic food sector, facilitated by a supportive regulatory environment and increased private investment that also supports the need of smallholder farmers. Regional coordination will be essential to address shared food security risks collectively, by optimising food trade based on comparative advantage and sharing opportunities to maximise resource efficiency. The conventional production methods that predominate in the region are an obstacle to progress, highlighting the need to embrace transformative digital technologies, such as AI and precision farming to boost productivity, reduce carbon emissions and streamline supply chains. Bridging the information gap, however, remains a challenge, requiring efforts to improve data utilisation across the agricultural value chain. This webinar discussion, hosted by the Financial Times and IFC - International Finance Corporation, will explore the role that investors can play in increasing investment to bolster food security in the Middle East. International Day of Plant Health, 12 May #planthealth 2024 theme: Plant health, safe trade and digital technology EWS has received an extended scope of competence certification, underscoring its commitment to maintaining high efficiency of seed health testing standards for phytosanitary certificate issuance. "Each year, over 240 million containers move between countries, carrying goods including plant products, posing biosecurity risks. In addition, about 80 percent of international trade consignments include wood packaging material, providing a pathway for pest transmission. As a result, damages from invasive pest species incur global economic losses of approximately USD 220 billion annually. Protecting plant health across borders is essential by promoting global collaboration and international standards, such as the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs). Innovative solutions like electronic phytosanitary certification (ePhyto) streamline the process, making trade quicker and more secure. The International Day of Plant Health 2024 calls on everyone to raise awareness and take action to keep our plants healthy and ensure food safety and safe trade for sustainable economies and livelihoods." #FAO

AI is transforming organic agriculture, driving positive change with precision farming that boosts efficiency and sustainability. Looking forward to see more advancements driving forwards the future for eco-friendly farming!
"Artificial Intelligence and the ongoing digital revolution will inevitably transform the world and its agrifood systems, making it all the more urgent that the transformations they drive benefit everyone and contribute to solving global challenges," said the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu at the Business Federations of the #G7 (#B7). He noted that ”Digital agriculture can revolutionize how we produce, distribute and consume food,” highlighting that potential benefits for farmers and stakeholders across agrifood systems include improved pricing data, minimizing food loss and waste, enhancing food safety and stimulating adoption of better seeds, fertilizer and sustainable practices. The B7 comprises the main business and industrial federations of the G7 members and the European Union. Once a year, the B7 presents its recommendations on selected priority topics to the G7 presidency, which this year is held by Italy. The event was also attended by Italy’s deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, and a wide array of chief executive officers from international private companies. https://lnkd.in/dBYaZqws
