#hiring *PhD Student Biology - Proteomics (m/f/d)*, Bonn, *Germany*, fulltime #opentowork #jobs #jobseekers #careers #Bonnjobs #Nordrhein-Westfalenjobs #ScienceTechnology *Apply*: https://lnkd.in/gwpszgrd The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) is a maximum care hospital with more than 1,300 beds. Our more than 9,000 employees take on tasks in research, teaching and patient care as well as in public health at the highest level. In the science ranking (LOMV) and in the economic result, the UKB is number 1 of the university hospitals in NRW and in 2021 had the third highest case mix index of the university hospitals in Germany. The Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn, Germany is offering a full-time (38.5 h/week) position for a PhD student or Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) The position starts as soon as possible and is for a period of three years, with the possibility of an extension. Mitochondria fulfil various essential functions for the survival of eukaryotic cells. Their biogenesis and functions depend on the import of more than 1,000 different proteins that are produced as precursors on cytosolic ribosomes. Mitochondrial protein import is an essential process for cell survival and defects cause severe neurodegenerative diseases and cardiomyopathy. The translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane (TOM complex) forms the entry gate for precursor proteins, which are subsequently sorted via dedicated protein machineries into the different mitochondrial subcompartments. Our biochemical and proteomic studies identified partner proteins of protein translocases, linking protein import to organelle-contact sites, protein quality control mechanisms and mitochondrial metabolism (Mårtensson et al., 2019 Nature; Ellenrieder et al., 2019 Mol. Cell). In the frame of the DFG-funded priority program SPP2453, we will investigate molecular mechanisms that control protein transport to mitochondria. We use highly innovative techniques in biochemistry, molecular and cell biology such as protein-protein-interaction studies coupled with proteomics, activity assays, blue native electrophoresis, cell-free protein synthesis and protein stability assays. We offer a well-equipped workspace in an active international team. The University of Bonn provides an excellent scientific research environment. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented graduate with a strong interest in protein biochemistry, molecular and cell biology. Experience with biochemical, cell and molecular biology techniques or proteomics is advantageous. Candidates should hold a diploma or a master's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Chemistry or a related subject. Responsible and versatile: a job with a lot of creative freedom in a collegial team Secure in the future: fee according to TV-L EG13 Flexible for families: flexible working tim

The future of humanity is a fascinating and rapidly evolving tapestry of technology and biology. A radical theory proposes a world where traditional roles in reproduction and gender are fundamentally altered. This theory is anchored in the advanced application of stem cell technology and a profound shift in human biology. As humans evolve, a significant change hypothesized is the alteration in reproductive biology. In this future, advanced genetic engineering and stem cell research have paved the way for anyone, regardless of gender, to conceive and bear children. The mastery of stem cell manipulation allows for the creation of gametes from an individual's own cells, eliminating the traditional need for a male-female dynamic in reproduction. Furthermore, artificial wombs and advanced gestational technologies enable all individuals to experience pregnancy, redefining familial structures. This biological and technological revolution leads to profound social changes, encouraging a more egalitarian society where roles and responsibilities are not dictated by gender but by personal choice and aptitude. This theory presents a fascinating glimpse into the potential future of our species, inviting us to reimagine the human experience in a world where biology and technology merge to redefine the fundamentals of life.
