We at CWA and CES understand the importance of a strong, healthy and efficient transportation system. How humans traverse throughout the built world is a large part of our job as planners. The SEMCOG, Southeast Michigan Council of Governments 2050 Regional Transportation Plan "will provide a coordinated and strategic approach to transportation planning, with the goal of improving mobility, increasing safety, reducing congestion, and supporting economic growth and development throughout the region." This robust proposal is "the latest Regional Transportation Planning effort for Southeast Michigan. It will serve as the guiding policy document for long-term transportation investment for Southeast Michigan to ensure we continue to maintain the infrastructure and expand the services that we all rely on each day." As a free inclusion to those coming to the Melbourne Networking evening (purchase tickets here https://hubs.ly/Q02nDLbp0) we have lined up a mini seminar geared at discussion on the Western Outer Ring Main (WORM). the challenges, the successes and all the other complexities that come along with it. Looking forward to seeing you all there. Presentation 1 – Western Outer Ring Main The Western Outer Ring Main Pipeline Project (WORM) is a critical piece of infrastructure required to secure Victoria’s Energy supply by connecting high pressure gas pipelines on the east and west of Melbourne. This presentation discusses the challenges of procuring land access and government approvals for the WORM in a growing urban environment. The discussion will focus on the process for obtaining initial access to land for surveys through to final easement acquisition, working with registered aboriginal parties to mitigate and manage impacts to aboriginal cultural heritage and understanding the complexities of net gain offset requirements at both State and Federal level. Presenters Dennis Reid, General Manager Infrastructure Planning & Approvals, APA Group & Tom Carroll, Program Manager SE, APA Group Presentation 2 - Western Outer Ring Main (WORM) The Western Outer Ring Main project is a high pressure, buried gas transmission pipeline, approximately 51 kilometres long, which provides a new connection between existing pipelines at Plumpton in Melbourne’s west and Wollert in the north. The project includes a major watercourse crossing of Jacksons Creek. This crossing required realignment during the construction phase due to access restrictions. The discussion will focus on optioneering activities due to the realignment and the resulting construction challenges and successes. Here's a blog post I wrote about connectivity - the title is misleading as it's not just about Transport Infrastructure: what's really important, and what is driving rapid economic growth in Teesside is the coming together of infrastructure to support industry at scale: that is transport, but also utilities, workforce, Freeport benefits and an appetite for getting development done. If you'd like to discuss opportunities (offering all of the above) at Teesside International Airport and Teesworks please reach out to me or Guy Gilfillan
Hear from Will Cummock in his latest blog on why connectivity in terms of both transport and infrastructure is crucial for regional developments such as Teesside 📝 https://bit.ly/4cx86d4 #regionaldevelopment #transportinfrastructure #teesside #colliers

There's one week left to join NAPA's Industry Benchmarking Initiative! We asked Joseph Shacat why companies should contribute: "Agencies will rely on industry data, collected through our EPD Benchmarking Initiative, to set low embodied carbon procurement policies, unlocking $2 billion in federal funding for infrastructure projects. My favorite part is that there is no cost for asphalt plants to participate in benchmarking. But you have to act quickly – data collection closes on March 15." As you have likely noticed, today I've dedicated to talking about the freight potential of the Vancouver Island Railway. The two other posts talk about potential revenue based on environmental and market conditions around West Coast freight. A Freight Analysis was completed by a credible corporation (HDR) that was contracted by the BC Government in late 2022 prior to the 14 Mar 2023 court decision point. From the Executive Summary "The British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI) engaged HDR Corporation (HDR) to conduct a detailed analysis of existing freight rail transportation services and facilities, freight rail demand, potential benefits of shifting freight onto rail (such as supply chain resiliency and emissions reduction), and potential future opportunities for businesses to utilize rail for freight movement along the Island Rail Corridor network so that it may continue to function as a component of the overall multimodal transportation system on Vancouver Island." There is a laundry list of benefits directly associated with the railway, and if we put more into it by building an extension to Duke Point, the returns and benefits would not only benefit the island, but those benefits would resonate on the mainland too! "If all of the most-likely opportunities were realized, HDR estimates that a volume range of between 4,500 and 11,400 annual carloads on the Island Rail Corridor could be achieved in the near to medium term, provided that rail shipping and handling fees are competitive with other modes. These rail opportunities could enable between 10,400 and 25,570 annual truckloads on Vancouver Island to be taken off the roads, which is equivalent to an estimated 2 to 4 million truck kilometers per year. This shift would result in an annual greenhouse gas emissions savings estimated to be between 1,741 and 3,636 metric tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year." https://lnkd.in/gp8EpJ6e Bring Rail Back better https://chng.it/HTPJ25CqPr
