This week, GFiber sponsored Eco-Bytes: Weaving the Digital Opportunity Web with the Digital Inclusion Alliance of San Antonio. It was a cool and inspiring day, and we loved showing off a little of the awesome tech that brings our internet to Texas homes with this hands-on demo crimping and splicing fiber optic cable..

Is this a meme? They are not splicing fiber - they are terminating twisted pair copper with RJ45 connectors! The copper cables should not be untwisted more than 1/2" according to ANSI/TIA 568. And the insulators should be contained within the RJ45 jacks. So their home-made copper Ethernet patch cables are not Cat6/Cat7 compliant.

24 years in the field and im pretty sure i only used those tools on twisted pair, not fiber. Ive crimped connectors in the old days of hand polishing or perhaps a mechanical connector here and there as well. This video in no way represents fiber optics

I remember once back in the usmc we got voluntold to make 600x mm crimp on jumpers for a Mericopa county k12 fiber to the desktop project. Fingers are still sore and that was 2001.
