I will admit, it has been a minute since I've ran & worked on a social media giveaway. To the point, where I was a skeptic & anti giveaway guy for brand accounts in 2023.
Enter (which you should if you have Instagram & fly fish) the first social media giveaway campaign of 2024 - Pure Fishing Grey's Fly giveaway campaign.
So what are my tips to running a successful social giveaway you (aka no one) may ask?
1) K.I.S.S.: The simpler the entry method = The more responses + entries. Truly. The more barriers to entry, or added steps, or personal data (especially) you ask for + ask to complete - the less entries you will get. With one caveat - next point
2) Make the Prize Worth It: The better the prize = The more responses + entries. Shocker, I know. But this was almost my first point and as the prize or prize package grows, so will the interest and willingness to participate. This should be the foundation for your campaign expectations.
3) Team Up: Find a partner brand, influencer/ambassador, non-profit and team up to hit a wider audience + combine products for bigger prize package and/or spread campaign awareness across platforms. For example, the Grey's Fly team paired up with Fly Fishing Film Tour as a category sponsor for the film tour and to coincide with some in-event activations - we decided to run this social giveaway campaign simultaneously.
4) Define the Goal: What's the point of the giveaway? To gain followers (this one's goal)? To raise awareness around a new product launch? To support a cause or organization? Make sure you know why you're running a giveaway so that you can measure campaign effectiveness against.
What do you think of social media giveaways? Have you had success as a small business or brand running one? Any key points I missed?
