Reading the #groupleisureandtravel article on the thorny issue of #singleroomsupplements always stirs memories of my early years in the #grouptravelindustry It shows how times have changed, as back in the early to mid 70's, a typical coach would be full with 53 retired group members sharing quad, triple and double rooms with a few twins and the odd single thrown in! And in those early days many coaching hotels didn't have a kettle in the room let alone a TV or WC/shower etc! Nowadays it's quite the reverse with the majority of groups requiring lots of single and twin bedded rooms which can be a nightmare for organisers, tour operators and accommodation providers alike. I think it's fair to say, in my experience, the majority of accommodation providers did everything possible to try and meet the needs of the group. One thing is for sure and that is that single rooms, and supplements where applicable, will always be a challenge for the industry.
