Inspiring + Empowering Others through Education and Innovation
“Within the child lies the fate of the future.”
~Maria Montessori
I love seeing my girl engaged in her work! Flower arranging is one of her favorites!
🩵 What is it?
A special “Flower Arranging Table” containing collection of tiny bud vases; a collection of doilies; a vase of flowers; a special pitcher and funnel for filling the vases; and a beautiful flowered tray to use as a work surface. The child puts on an apron to protect his clothes. He choose the flower and the vase he would like to work with, then goes to the sink to get a small amount of water. He pours the water carefully into the vase using the funnel, and places the flower in the vase, checking to make sure the stem is touching the water. He selects a doily to place under the vase, and finds a spot in the classroom to make more beautiful with his arrangement!
🩵 Why do we do it?
To show how to arrange flowers; to develop an appreciation for flowers; to give the child a sense of ownership and pride in caring for shared community spaces; to aid in the development of functional independence.
🩵 How to help at home?
At home, your child can participate in choosing flowers and displaying them in a beautiful vase.

It's real simple... opinions may color the canvas, but facts draw the lines ✍️
No wonder it looks like kindergarteners are in charge out here 🖍️😏
We're coloring way outside the lines, in way too many areas where the health and well-being of moms and children are literally on the line🤱
These are our neighbors, friends, family, and co-workers. They are living behind closed doors, however, what they really need is our support and understanding.

🌷 Walking in a garden and picking flowers and plants.
🌷 Celebrating Mother’s Day with a tea party.
🌷 Preparing breakfast-in-bed with the help of a child.

What is your memory of pumice stones?
As a child, encountering a pumice stone often meant observing its unique texture and lightweight feel. Here are a few nostalgic scenarios where a pumice stone might be remembered from childhood:
Bath Time Rituals: Many children remember seeing their parents or grandparents use a pumice stone during bath time to scrub their feet or elbows. The sound of the stone against the skin, the way it floated in water, and its rough texture might stand out in these memories.
Playing with It: The stone's unusual lightness and porous surface might have made it an intriguing object for play. Children might recall how fun it was to see it float in water or to feel its rough surface against their hands.
Helping with Household Chores: Some children might remember helping their parents clean the bathroom, using a pumice stone to scrub away hard water stains from the toilet or tub. The sense of accomplishment from seeing a dirty surface become clean could be a strong memory.
Curiosity and Learning: For kids interested in geology, a pumice stone might have been a fascinating object due to its volcanic origin. Learning that it came from lava and could float on water could have sparked an early interest in science.
Foot Care Demonstrations: Watching a family member use a pumice stone for foot care, seeing how it removed dead skin and softened calluses, could be a vivid memory. Some children might have been curious enough to try using it themselves, under supervision.
Gardening Activities: If a family was into gardening, a child might remember using pumice stones in soil or seeing them in plant pots to help with drainage and aeration.
These memories are often tied to the sensory experience of handling the pumice stone and observing its practical uses in everyday life.

Montessori tips to keep everyone happy (including the toddlers!)
Which is your favorite?
🟢Seed Germination
Plant seeds of flowers or vegetables in peat pots/yogurt containers or directly in the ground.
Have the children water them daily and watch out for new growth.
(Zinnias and cosmos are flowers that germinate quickly- perfect for eager little ones).
🟢Leaf Washing
Take a sponge and cut it into a diamond shape.
The child wets it and wipes the leaves of plants.
🟢Matching Activity
Use any items (blocks, pictures, etc…) Lay one set out in a column or a row and ask your child to find the ones that look the same.
Try matching objects with exact cards and objects with similar cards. For example, you could have two pictures of butterflies, one red and one blue. Or two blue blocks that are exactly the same (same size, color, shape).
And don't forget the power of getting everyone outdoors! Any of these activities can be enjoyed in the open air allowing for extra sensory development and enjoyment.

Early Childhood-Flower Arranging
Look at that focus and concentration!
Flower Arranging and other Montessori Practical Life activities are used to help children develop independence and logical thought. Each step of these activities satisfies the child’s innate desire to imitate the “work” that they see adults completing daily. For the Flower Arranging work, children exercise their fine and gross motor skills as they carry a tray, a vase, and a pitcher of water, all slowly and carefully. They practice concentration as they admire the beautiful materials available and choose just the right vase and flowers. They pour water through a funnel, using their skills of estimation to determine when it’s time to stop. They practice their cutting skills while again estimating and determining just how much of the stem they need to trim off to make the flower fit into the vase. Their attention to detail alerts them to any spills or drips, which they carefully wipe up with a sponge or a towel, and they practice following through with a sequence of steps. The whole activity is engaging and calming for the student, providing an opportunity for them to contribute to the beautification of the environment for all to enjoy.

"I decided to work on this project because I want to give back to the children what was stolen from them and even more." - Roman, a muralist at the Pinocchio (formerly Buration) kindergarten in Borodyanka, Kyiv region.
After the destruction of the kindergarten during the occupation in February-March 2022, Project HOPE took the initiative to rebuild it. January 2024 was the technical opening of the renovated kindergarten.
When the question arose of what would be depicted on the wall of the kindergarten, the answer came by itself: "Pinocchio!"
Watch the video to find out what is depicted on the mural, what it symbolizes, and how the process of creating went on.

We are looking for a home for cats.
1. Cats are made together with the children, and then we use them as teaching material (we formulate the significance of the work performed, the children are happy that their work is important)
2. The child draws the house himself. (we create interest in learning)
3. The color of the house matches the color of the cat.
4. The number of Cats matches the number.
5. If you pay attention to the board, there are alarm clocks on it, except for Cats. This is for attentiveness and logic)
6. Children attach all materials with magnets independently under the guidance of a teacher.
7. Even simple little things can be turned into an exciting activity. In this way we develop motor skills, counting, imaginative and logical thinking, and attention.
