🏗 This Friday I have the honour of participating in the Beyond Culture of Ownership (un)conference. What excites me more about this event is the discussion about how technology and the creative industries can re-imagine the concept of ownership. Let's assess different definitions of ownership: 📚 Cambridge Dictionary: The right or state of being an owner. 💻 ChatGpt (always interesting to see what our AI friend thinks): Ownership typically refers to the legal right to possess, use, control, and dispose of an item or asset. It involves the exclusive rights and responsibilities associated with a particular object, property, or resource. Ownership can pertain to various types of assets Blockchain and Web3 bootstrapped the conversation about what is being an owner in the digital era. Assistive technology (AT) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for billions worldwide. Eyeglasses, one of the earliest forms of AT, have long been indispensable for improving vision. Similarly, wheelchairs offer mobility to those with physical disabilities, while hearing aids and cochlear implants open up the world of sound to those with hearing impairments. Globally, over 2.5 billion people require at least one assistive product. With an aging population and rising noncommunicable diseases, this number is expected to reach 3.5 billion by 2050. Interestingly, some AT devices, like the typewriter, were originally invented for the general population. The typewriter's design directly inspired the invention of the first Braille machine, introduced by Frank Haven Hall in 1892. Today, keyboards are integral to many assistive technologies, aiding individuals with various disabilities in communication and productivity.
