Around 300 million people are currently dependent on #HumanitarianAid - more than ever before. The international community is facing this huge task, but the #FundingGap is enormous. The #EuropeanHumanitarianForum, which is taking place today and tomorrow in Brussels, is addressing this major problem. The forum’s objective is to explore ways of meeting the growing global need for humanitarian aid in the face of dwindling resources. Hansen Roland, head of our Africa department, is representing #MalteserInternational at the event to participate in the discussions about possible ways forward, like increased efficiency, more flexible funding, anticipatory humanitarian action, the linking of humanitarian aid, development and peace (HDP) and the involvement of the private sector. “Above all, however, more political action is needed to reduce the conflicts that are the main cause of people’s suffering. As Malteser International, we are supporting communities and people in need in many of the major crises and need donations to supplement shrinking public funds”, says Hansen. #EHF2024 #EHF #MalteserInternational

We aim to offer an inventory of the possibilities that a national NGO can seize to mobilize resources. To show how an organization should prepare to pursue a sustainable resource mobilization strategy. To detail what should be included in a resource mobilization strategy. To demonstrate that beyond traditional fundraising possibilities, many solutions exist to bring together the necessary means necessary for projects’ implementation. Since November 2023, we have managed more 80 interviews with representatives of NNGOs, INGOs, Donors, UN Agencies, Red Cross Committee, Corporations or members of the diasporas. With several networks' help, we are launching a survey to gather information from more than 1 000 persons involved in the sector to have representative statistics on our topic. In light of the ongoing crisis in the Gaza region, our message at the Impact Hub Network is clear: we stand for peace, compassion, and immediate action. Internews Europe CEO Meera Selva joins Clinton Global Initiative tomorrow, 16 April at 12pm ET (6pm CEST), for a conversation on humanitarian needs, priorities, and challenges in Sudan. Every year, we answer as many urgent pleas as possible, but the scale of attacks against the media continues to grow. That’s why we need flexible financial resources to respond with the speed that’s required when a crisis strikes. In September 2023 we launched a CGI Commitment to Action: we committed to raising $10M for an Internews Emergency Fund for Independent Media, a permanent, unrestricted fund to protect the lives and livelihoods of journalists around the world. We have already raised more than $3M toward this goal. With these funds we have been able to provide resources to media under attack, such as supporting outlets delivering vital information about humanitarian resources in Sudan. Switchboard – our innovative project funded by USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance – has come to the end of its pilot phase. This process was almost two years long, so not easy to capture in 4 minutes of video! We have however tried our best. Using technology, it aimed to facilitate connections among different generations and networks of diaspora actors to encourage knowledge exchange between communities and generations and produce new ideas related to humanitarian action. Its main objectives were to: Improve the reach and impact of diaspora humanitarianism through the development of an innovative Switchboard, which included a mobile application and a dedicated resource with different content. Increase and sustain knowledge and access to education on diaspora humanitarian engagement, especially for 1.5 and 2nd generation diaspora.   Strengthen diaspora networks, bridging generational divides, to improve capacity and action in response to humanitarian crises.   This pilot focused on three countries: #Haiti, #Sudan, and #Syria, whose diasporas have been active in mounting a humanitarian response to recurrent crises, over generations. Sadly, these crises were all too apparent in this time period. The best part of this project was collaborating from the very get-go with partner organisations from these diasporas, namely GPO NGO, HAITI RENEWAL ALLIANCE INC, SCAN UK | The Syrian Charities and Associations Network in the UK, American Relief Coalition for Syria and Minab IT Solutions PLC. This collaboration allowed us to collect vital insights on their needs when responding to humanitarian crises and build out the app. We could have achieved very little without our partners or the support of USAID BHA and Vistant throughout the journey. #diaspora #collaboration #innovation #technology #businessasunusual

An interesting discussion today on the UN Security Council on joint effort of private and humanitarian sector in response to the global issues (and beyond just financial donations). Kicked off by our UN WFP global leader, followed by the corporate representatives sharing their insights. It is quite straightforward from both the sides that there is a burning need to work together - it makes good business sense, it is good for the world - I am wondering why not more of such partnerships are happening?
