Today, I stumbled upon a post from a user at Hunch that made us all go ❤️ It is so satisfying to see users leaving a note of love behind even if they are taking a break from the app. The emotions expressed by the user revolve around 'happiness, positivity, warmth, good vibes'. These emotions are what we build for, what keeps us ticking despite all the odds. Over the last few quarters, we've done several off-app surveys asking questions around the emotions our users feel when they think about Hunch. It's phenomenal to see >80% respondents choosing happiness as the prime emotion they experience on the app. This intangible 'happiness' emotion is leading to the metrics that we're seeing. This month we saw a 5x increase in content sharing from across the app, a metric noticed by Kartic Rakhra! Is there any other social app that gives you 'happiness'? In my previous LinkedIn post, I highlighted concerns about the platform "X," particularly focusing on its content moderation and credibility. Surprisingly, this topic didn't spark much engagement. However, the latest data from Appfigures tells a different story about user behaviour and preferences. Despite "X" often making headlines, it's Instagram's Threads, that's winning the race in app downloads. This rise isn't just a small lead; Threads has tripled its daily downloads on iOS globally and doubled them on Google Play compared to X. Remember, though, downloads don't always mean active use. Threads' growth has been significant. By late December, it recorded over half a million daily installs across both major platforms. On a specific day like February 25, 2024, Threads had 486,803 downloads on Google Play and 342,228 on iOS, far outpacing X. This trend suggests a shift in user behavior. Users seem to be actively seeking alternatives to X, moving towards platforms like Threads. This could eventually reflect in how many people actively use these apps every month. Interestingly, while X continues to be a hot topic, there's a noticeable silence or lack of reaction from media professionals about the platform's challenges. But the reason why we are bringing this up is because Instagram is always adding new stickers into the app to help increase your engagement. For example, they are considering adding two new ones soon, including one for “app” and a “secret sticker.” 👀 Now the app sticker is a pretty simple sticker that offers you way to link your viewers through to another app. This could be good for promoting special deals, products, or anything you have on an app somewhere. While a new “Secret” sticker is a sticker that would only be visible to those who respond to the Story with a message. After a slow start, BeReal took the social media world by storm in 2021, hooking users (especially #genz users) with its anti-Instagram, pro authenticity sentiment. However, the number of people who use the app daily has dropped 61 percent from its peak, from about 15 million in October 2022 to less than six million in March 2023, as users have become jaded and fatigued.
