Had an incredible week in the Art and Science of Participation course by ICA Associates Inc. ✔️Thoroughly enjoyed the refresher on leading Focused Conversations, Consensus Workshops and Strategic Planning. ✔️Learning about Complex Facilitation Design has changed the way I will prepare for meetings and facilitation. Working through real life scenarios for hours ingrained the process. ✔️I will apply Charting Documents to the way I read and retain material. ✔️Spent time with several amazing colleagues. Had so much fun learning with my facilitation buddy Danielle Taschereau Mamers, PhD. Danielle and Carrie-Anne Atkins, PMP privileged me as being their ‘keynote speaker’ in the mixed-housing scenario. ✔️Grateful for the skilled experitse and wisdom of John Miller, Scott Russell and Joanna Barclay. ✔️Looking forward to helping many organizations with what I’ve learned. #Facilitation #ICA #IAF #StrategicPlanning #Leadership #MeetingsThatWork

I've taken many courses over the years...with ICA and others...Art and science was by far my best and most memorable experience. I still remember designing an agenda in the field of pharma for fellow student Helen Leask BSc PhD . We became fast friends as a result of being in the same class. Also fond memories learning with fellow alum Paul Stern

ICA seems to be an awesome organization, but only present in Ontario for big events. Hope their activities become more national when they can.

Jane Garthson (she/her) You are so right about ICA Associates Inc. being an awesome organization. Thankfully, it has a strong presence in other parts of Canada. I have taken 10+ facilitation courses with them over the past two decades, all in Alberta. The training and mentoring by these incredibly knowledgeable individuals has been a core foundation of my facilitation practice.

Art & Science of Participation: that’s a wrap! There is a special magic in immersive learning with others. I’ve been fortunate to have many learning experiences over my career. But very few have involved spending six full days thinking, sharing, and practicing with a team. From deepening my experience with ToP tools to delving into complex design and client relations, my brain (and pens!) was working overtime. We honed our facilitation skills, paying special attention to strategic planning, team building, action planning, and appreciative inquiry. As a special bonus, I got to try my hand at a bit of graphic facilitation! In the days since, I’ve been reflecting on values, the role of fun in work, the value of sustained time with a group, and more. I’ve got a few comics in the works (my favorite way to reflect)… Thank you to our wonderful training team at ICA Associates Inc.: John Miller, Joanna Barclay, and Scott Russell. And endless appreciation to the other participants. I learned so much from you, Natalie Zend, Dwayne Cline, Erin, Mylène Lamoureux-Duquette, Andrea, Carrie-Anne Atkins, PMP, Meredith Kennedy, and Karine. 🌟 Thrilled to reflect on an exciting and insightful two-day Facilitating Client Collaboration training course with NWTRPA in Yellowknife! Participants dove into a logical flow from diagnosis to challenges to co-creating the solution and implementing in collaboration with the clients. ‘ Appreciating a clear, step-by-step approach that truly resonated‘ as quoted from direct feedback from the participants 🚀Some other feedback includes: 🗣️ “I particularly enjoyed how straightforward client conversations led to defining the focus statement and central question. 🌟 Tonight, our AFP Community of Practice came alive with a vibrant session hosted by Lindsay Humber, Lindsay shared insightful reflections on her work and the unique challenges of fostering public engagement in creative ways. We started with the question: what belonging feels, looks, sounds like to you? We then delved into a focused conversation on creative ways to enhancing public participation, highlighting innovative strategies that can transform community interaction. Participants shared their community engagement experiences and best practices from China, Nigeria, and Canada. A big thank you to Lindsay for leading such an enriching discussion!
