Always try to share your opinions: The company that hired you wants to hear advice from you as well. In our working world, it is crucial to promote inclusion by offering various work models, such as part-time work, for both men and women. Flexibility in working hours is essential to accommodate diverse life circumstances. Dieter Hecker is the Head of Technical R&D, and he works part-time. We asked him how he describes himself and his dreams and why he chooses to work part-time. Read Dieter’s unique experiences here. 👇 🎨 Q: What have been the milestones in your life so far? D: “After school, I trained to make steel molds, specializing in spark erosion. Later, I focused on design as a mechanical engineering technician in the automotive industry. I also worked on product development there. In 2000, I joined STABILO 🖍️ as a product designer. Since then, I've moved up the ladder, leading the design team, running the R&D workshop, and finally my current position - head of the technical R&D department! My team and I are all about creating the products of the future, from ideas to series production”🌟 👦 Q: What was your dream job as a child? D: “Carpenter, as I worked with my grandfather with wood in his workshop at a very early age.” 💪 Q: What skills that you would have needed in your dream job can you put to good use in your current job? D: “Good spatial perception, craftsmanship skills, design orientation, precision, and patience.” 🔎 Q: How has your definition of success changed over time? D: “It has never changed because, for me as a product developer, being successful has always meant creating successful products that I can be proud of.” 😍 💼 Q: Why do you work part-time? D: “My aim in working part-time is - in addition to my free time - to collect and implement new ideas and thoughts on this day off. This is not just about constructive solutions for development work. This time model can encourage a fundamentally equal understanding and set an example.” 😎 Thank you, Dieter, for your insights. Meet Tom Sim, Associate Architectural Project Manager: 1. What was the most memorable/notable experience you’ve had working with HPAD? - As a growing company, developing behind-the-scenes ways to make the drawing process quicker with more accuracy and clarity has been great to see utilized, along with taking feedback from the designers to further streamline the process and implement new improvements. 2. When were you most proud to work for/with HPAD? - Each year at the yearly company-wide gathering, seeing everyone from all the offices in one place, interacting and enjoying each other’s company makes me prouder each year. 3. What was your favorite project you’ve worked on and why? - There have been so many! I don’t want to pick just one, but the projects where there is an open and collaborative dialog to ensure the best design intent is drawn accurately are my favorite projects. But being involved with the new office planning has been a joy. 4. What was your favorite song/podcast to listen to? - MrBallen for strange dark and mysterious stories; otherwise, music with a fast tempo and a highly technical structure is piped directly into my brain.   5. Inclusive design isn't just a nice-to-have; it's the heart of innovation and progress. In our own work at Delve, we have seen time and time again that products designed for accessibility end up making life better for everyone. Think about it. At Design Engine Structures, we prioritise the well-being and professional cohesion of our engineering team. To foster a positive work environment, we have instituted a monthly tradition known as 'Activity Day' every first Wednesday of the month. During this time, each engineer has the opportunity to propose a social event that may include breakfast or dinner gatherings, as well as engaging activities such as quizzes and puzzles that involve participation from the entire team. This initiative has significantly enhanced team camaraderie, facilitating both learning opportunities and constructive discussions. Reflecting on the past year, it has been immensely gratifying to witness the positive impact of these initiatives on our team dynamics. The amount of money paid demonstrates the magnitude of the opportunity cost. The shift taking place in the workplace right now is unprecedented. On the one hand, the employees' preference for remote work is quite clear. On the other, companies - especially the tech giants - realize that with the current rapid development of technology (AI, Metaverse etc), it might be preferable to maintain flexibility, so that they can more easily reduce their workforce that possibly - probably? - will not be needed in the near future. From there on, the choice of the owning company shows a shift towards a sector that is believed to be less affected by this wave of change on our doorstep. Well, the latter remains to be seen... The only certain thing, is that it is a historic decision that will most likely affect both the business world itself and its relationship with real estate.

When I was 20, I started my 1st business: SuperNova Studio's, an agency which … → helped architects with visualisation & (digital) design. We - the 5 co-founders - started the business because we worked as interns in an architecture studio, and saw how the digital 3D world could accelerate the physical world of architecture. → Similar to how AI now disrupts other physical domains We ALSO saw that external agencies made good money for the same things that we did as interns. ( for a lot less ! ) → So we just started Our first offer was a total failure. ( Asking an amount of 4x the budget of our client ! ) → We learned Working day and night, we quickly made a name. At the height of the cooperation, we made visionary & futuristic visualisations & videos. ( It looks very retro now ! ) → Honouring the brand name: SUPERNOVA studio’s Yet all good things come to an end. Five captains on one ship, doesn’t work. Just like a real Supernova: → The star collapsed Into multiple entities.
