🌱 It´s here !! We're thrilled to unveil the results of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and climate action in the IKEA Annual #Sustainability and #climatereporting for FY23.  In a world grappling with interconnected challenges such as climate change, nature loss, and social inequality, we are proud to share the strides we've taken in our progress towards sustainability goals, both big and small, across full value chain. These achievements are not just annual; they are the result of continuous efforts that require resilience, deep commitment to making a difference and working together.  🌟 Some key highlights from FY23:   •100% renewable electricity at 142 additional factories or suppliers, bringing the total to 408. •Provided 23.2 million assembly parts to enable our customers to prolong the life of products. •Reduction in the amount of plastic packaging of consumer goods by approximately 47% and reducing total plastic packaging by approximately 44% compared to baseline year FY21. 💧#WaterLeadership #Waterstewardship💧 •To inspire more sustainable 🚿shower habits, the #SVÅGAN water meter was launched as a commercial pilot in Spain in FY23. The product displays shower duration, litres of water consumed and water temperature in an effort to bring awareness to water usage in real-time. •Identified the top 15 most scarce 🌊river basins connected to our supply chains based on current and projected (2030) water scarcity, where we would prioritize our actions. •Piloted various projects like #wetland restoration in Noyyal Bhavani river basin India, #naturebasedsolutions to address flooding and drought risks at the Manufacturing Development Centre in Zbaszyn, installed reverse osmosis and evaporator facility to increase recycling at supplier etc, with an objective to learn and scale up in coming years. FY23 Sustainability and climate reports are finally here🤩

We are very happy to share our FY 23 sustainability and climate reports today ! The progress that we are sharing is a testament to the incredible efforts of stakeholders throughout IKEA's value chain. As of FY23, we decreased our climate footprint by 12% year on year and by 22% compared to our baseline FY16. Some of the key drivers for the decrease in climate emissions were the continued adoption of renewable electricity across our value chain, movement towards use of more recycled/materials , greater share of intermodal transport and more energy efficient products. Every drop of water contributes towards making an ocean and this year's progress puts us on stead towards our FY30 journey to halve emissions across our value chain - and to do it in an holistic manner , fully integrated with the nature and people/social agenda. We're taking action here and now to pave the way for another 80 years. Today IKEA published its annual #Sustainability and #Climate Reports for FY23.  With challenges growing, we're proud of the big and small movements we’ve made toward our sustainability commitments. In FY23, we strengthened our climate goals, introduced a new bio-based glue and continued to increase renewable electricity in retail and production. We more than halved our climate footprint from product use at home compared to baseline FY16. We launched an updated #People Strategy to strengthen our direction and ambition for equality, diversity, and inclusion. It’s the people – our co-workers and partners – who make these movements happen day-in and day-out. And I want to congratulate all of you for playing an important part in our sustainability agenda. How to start measuring an organization’s carbon footprint? Here’s what we did for HEMA, a Dutch retail company with almost 750 stores, contributing to its journey to become climate-neutral by 2050. Following the Greenhouse Gas Protocol methodology, our Industries team calculated HEMA’s first carbon footprint, mapping scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. More details are provided in the graphic below. Based on this analysis, HEMA identified the areas of its operations that contribute significantly to its climate footprint and where impactful changes could be made. The organization now aims to significantly reduce its CO₂-eq emissions by aligning with global targets set by the Science Based Targets initiative. You’re better than flat-back. You’re better than fast fashion. You’re better than junk food. Go slow - as individuals and businesses - in a world obsessed with flat, fast and junk. Make no unnecessary waste. And waste no day on unecessary but hollow consumption. But it also great that IKEA, H&M and MAX Burgers who I all have worked with during the last years try do less harm and set new standards in their categories regarding sustainability, climate and circularity. But we as a society, planet and individuals need much more radical transformation than that. It’s more the interim solution. You’re better without flat-back. You’re better without fast fashion. You’re better without junk food.

With the spotlight on large corporations moving towards carbon reduction targets growing ever brighter, IKEA has set the pace with some innovative methods to achieve sustainability and adopt a circular business model. This article provides a great insight into IKEA's use of methods such as 'buy-back' and 're-sell' to cut emissions by nearly 25% since 2016, while still growing as a business. Last week on Climate Drift, Daniel Haltia (Sustainability Manager at IKEA) talked to us how the retail giant has experimented with circular economy principles (including creating a store selling second-hand IKEA furniture). These initiatives have been informed by their customers' needs and concerns. IKEA conducted research into sustainable living among over 33,000 people across 30 countries. Insights for this research helped IKEA identify 5 ways to support their customers' make better sustainable choices. 1. Provide solutions to help people save money and support people and planet. 2. Help people prioritise the most impactful and easiest actions and tell them what their impact is. 3. Signpost responsible purchase choices, clearly label sustainable products and communicate co-benefits. 4. Continue to engage the many people on people and planet topics – rationally and emotionally. 5. Push for legislation and incentives from government, and action from business on climate, protecting and restoring nature, and reducing inequality It was a really fascinating conversation about how IKEA is rethinking it's business in order to support customers' sustainable choices. #userresearch #sustainability #circulareconomy
