Everyone has an opinion on what AI is, what it can, and what it should, do. Our top three favorited education sessions at IMEX Frankfurt were all about AI. We want to know more—we all want the facts. What does it do? And how can we use it? MIT Technology Review, https://lnkd.in/gQgpwYVX, explores what we know and what we think we know about Artificial Intelligence “the way we talk about AI is more polarized than ever” explains MIT. And the narrative around AI has people across all industries talking. Is AI going to take your job? Probably not. Should it help free up your time to do what's really important? Yes. As the article explains, those on the AI cutting edge don't have a straight answer on the future of AI and what it'll look like in five years, 10 years and beyond. But what MIT does explain is exactly how AI works today and the background debate that has been going on for decades.

What is AI? If you’re wondering why AI is talked about so much lately, and how the technology and the ideologies around it are being shaped, then this long read might interest you. From the early days of the field when the term AI was first used, through to today’s AGI discussions and the debates about superintelligence, this article covers some of the different perspectives. For me, it seems clear LLMs can do some amazing things that are sometimes unexpected. Figuring out how they work is an exciting research question. But there’s also a lot of AI hype which distracts from what is ultimately just a tool that we can use to help us solve some of the problems we face. #artificialintelligence https://lnkd.in/eQx3MhH4

I have seen the debate across a few different platforms so far this week: ➡️ WHAT IS AI and HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE IT? 🤖 Interesting article from the MIT Technology Review for you to have a read. It's very interesting to understand the debate between US and European definitions but that AI is now so much more than LLMs... Take a read 📖 #AI #LLMs #ArtificialIntelligence

We hear about artificial intelligence daily now, almost non-stop it seems. But what exactly do people mean by that? What, exactly, is AI? There is not actually a true consensus. Will Douglas Heaven’s deep dive into this subject is an absolute masterclass in exploring its origins, capabilities, limitations, and the tension between math and magic. https://lnkd.in/gAnKtxEr

Bonnie Cheuk Fortunately, ChatGPT failed our first trial. This saved us time and money on NOT trying to adopt AI blindly in such an AI hype. This confirmed that we are using our expertise/IP, a copyrighted multilingual metadata, to do what AI, like ChatGPT, can't do in data analytics NOW. Do you or any contacts of yours need our expertise/IP? Thanks. Metadata is an enabler. It's a digital content, NOT a technology. It's like a treasure map, curated by human for treasure hunting. Without metadata, NO data can be found/retrieved, even by the most advanced technologies, like AI, quantum computers, etc. https://lnkd.in/g-aJFnXR 關於 AI 人工智能的一些事實 (Chinese version): https://lnkd.in/eeVbdcza Some fact findings about AI (English version): https://lnkd.in/gwcPNUPP

This is an excellent article and raises perfect questions about the category and definitions of what exactly #AI is. But in the business world, it may not matter what AI really is. In consulting, I have to provide workable answers to these types of questions all of the time. AI for a business person is not the math, the algorithm or even the hype, it is the 'doing' of something by the computer. That means in the early days, a macro in Excel was AI to an accountant. Now AI needs to do more but it is still AI if it does something automagically. I will leave the pedagogy of defining AI for the academic world to the academics. David M. What really is AI? This is a chunky piece shared by Bonnie (see below) on the latest twists and turns behind definitions of AI and what it actually means. There are some interesting nuggets in here such as AI is trained to recognise the form of words but not necessarily the actual meaning. The piece makes fun of all the different ways in which AI is being greeted and described and links it back to the fact that it is driven essentially by maths. With any new technology, people are going to overpromise and distort its potential impact. However I think most people have seen enough evidence of pioneering work driven by AI to grasp that it is unlike any new technology we have had to deal with before and adjusting to it through work and life is going to be full of ups and downs - however we choose to describe or interpret it. #ai #innovation #thedigitalleadershipforum
