There is a shift happening in hiring and (thankfully) its finally a positive one. I've reviewed over 450+ resumes and been on dozens of hiring teams. Here's what I've seen. 🎯 The best candidates are the ones who have certain personality traits: ambition, creativity, grit, to name a few. 🎯 The best candidates come from all walks of life. Some have Ivy league educations, some don't have any higher-ed at all. They can both be great employees. 🎯 The best candidates are willing to adapt to the hiring process. They don't mind longer interview processes or assignments, it's just another opportunity to show their skills. Companies are realizing this too. Hopefully this shift will continue and candidates can be hired based on their skills, not where they got them from. 👉 P.S. What do you think companies should be looking for in a candidate?

There is no shortage of talent in underserved communities, there is only a shortage of opportunities. Listen to the visionary Jamie Dimon as he speaks openly about the expansive talent pool available when you overlook minor offenses (or felonies in some cases), take off degree requirements, and implement apprenticeship programs in high schools. Absolutely, it's not just about degrees. While kudos to those who have earned them, what truly matters is your skills and your dedication. It's not about how long you've been in your field, but your ability to do the job and your willingness to put in the effort. Skill-based hiring opens doors for so many talented individuals who might not have the traditional credentials but have the drive and expertise to excel. It allows employers to find the best fit for their teams by focusing on what candidates can actually do. This approach not only brings in diverse perspectives and experiences but also fosters a more inclusive and dynamic workplace.

More leaders and firms are changing their people focus from degrees and pedigree to experience and skills.
