Veterinary medicine as a career can be very good, sometimes bad, and occasionally very ugly. It can be super frustrating when our good intentions as veterinary professionals and the application of our extensive training get lost in the alphabet soup of pet owner's expectations, perceptions and misconceptions. No matter how hard we try, that one-star Google review is going to happen. We are going to be accused of not caring, being "in it for the money" and just plain "upselling". I can honestly say that I have not met one veterinarian in my circle of colleagues who has ever made recommendations to the best of their knowledge, that are not in the best interest of the patient. It doesn't mean that bad apples aren't out there, but I truly believe they are few and far between. So where does this disconnect come from? What can we do as a profession to help abolish these "old wives'' tales? How can we empathize with pet owners' concerns without burning ourselves out? I am super proud to share with you a resource created by my office manager Kristen Webb CVPM. She has created it out of a passion and love for veterinary medicine, but also out of a need to create a resource where veterinary professionals and pet owners can find common ground. She has created some thoughtful and well-written articles addressing common issues in vet med free for all to view. Feel free to share ❤️ and stay tuned for some more thought-provoking articles. . . #pulsecheckpet #veterinarymedicine

Adding value to veterinary recruitment in the UK | Co-owner of Vetted Recruitment Limited. Always hiring!
Negotiating a contract can feel like a tightrope walk, balancing your needs with the expectations of the veterinary practice. But it's crucial to remember that a fair agreement benefits everyone involved. 🤝 Start by understanding your worth. Reflect on your qualifications, experiences, and the unique value you bring to the table. Don't be shy to highlight your strengths during discussions. It's not just about years in the field, but the quality of your work, your special skills, and the positive outcomes you've achieved for your patients. 🐾 When entering negotiations, clarity is your best friend. Be clear about what you want, whether it's salary, flexible hours, continuing education opportunities, or other benefits. But also, be prepared to listen. Understand the practice's constraints and goals. This two-way street approach fosters a collaborative atmosphere. 🗣️ Remember, it's not all about the money. Consider other aspects of the job that are important to you, such as work-life balance, the opportunity to specialize, or the culture of the practice. These factors can greatly influence your job satisfaction. ⚖️ Always approach negotiations with a professional and respectful tone. This isn't a battle; it's a partnership you're building. And if things don't align immediately, don't be discouraged. It's often a process of give-and-take to reach that sweet spot where both parties feel valued and understood. 🤗 Finally, don't rush. Take your time to review the terms, and if necessary, seek advice from a legal professional or a mentor. It's important that you fully understand the contract before you sign on the dotted line. 📝 #VeterinaryCareers #ContractNegotiation #Veterinary
