🔍 Have you ever heard about such mysterious-sounding safety requirements as ✔ FOPS, ✔ ROPS, ✔ OPS or ✔ TOPS? ⚠ They may sound odd but it is absolutely necessary to follow them while dealing with extremely harsh conditions. Like those you can observe in the mining industry to name one. What do they actually stand for though? It is not that hard really! What those initialisms or acronyms stand for is merely: 💡 Falling Object Protective Structures, 💡 Roll-Over Protective Structures and 💡 Tip-Over Protective Structures. Furthermore, all three of those are usually collectively referred to as OPS which stands for 🛡 Operator Protective Structures. What is more... 🥁 ... there other ones too! Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals focus over the past 12 years has been serving the needs of its mining sector clients by ensuring that it has a fleet that can meet its customers’ needs. The company’s latest purchase was a new Komatsu PC 7000 hydraulic excavator supplied by SMS Equipment. While they have a long-standing partnership, SMS Equipment and Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals’ relationship grew by leaps and bounds when the company purchased its first Komatsu hydraulic shovel in 2016. “We appreciate the Komatsu product from the large shovel side,” explains Clarence Boutin, General Manager of the Oilsands Division. “The 7000 is a very fast, highly productive machine, and there's also that balance between performance and what it costs to maintain. We find customers like it because of the cycle times, and we're able to maintain it efficiently. LKAB, the largest mining company in #Sweden (and #Europe), relies heavily on rail freight transport along the #IronOreLine, which connects the #Swedish port of #Luleå to the #Norwegian port of #Narvik. "As the global coordinator who creates and spreads rules to write Simplified English in our company, I am fully aware of the benefits of STE and have found the trainer's delivery on the subject matter to be very useful. Because I am not a writer, it is difficult to remember all STE rules. When there are any other important rules, rule 3.6 which promotes the use of active voice in procedural sentences making sentences easy to understand is my favourite rule. The rewriting workshop was very useful for me in two ways. I could recognise that the quality of our documents is not satisfactory, and I learned how to make them better.
