More investors mean more rental properties—it's that simple. Supporting residential investors helps alleviate the housing crisis by increasing the supply of rental stock. With private investors, primarily everyday families, providing 90% of rental accommodations, encouraging their investment not only addresses the supply shortage but also empowers individuals to build wealth and secure retirement without government dependency.

I recently had a piece published in FP Comment (Financial Post) on the topic of why Indigenous housing needs private capital. Indigenous communities have traditionally had only one option for securing housing funds: the federal government. This limitation has prompted certain bands to develop their own financial strategies. Unlike banks who continue to operate by outdated lending policies with little movement on updating them, private lenders have the freedom to think innovatively and swiftly. Considerable untapped resources exist within both the private sector and Indigenous communities, presenting opportunities for improving housing conditions. The current system of funding for Indigenous housing is inadequate and needs reform.
