The #RightToEducation is increasingly synonymous with the right to meaningful connectivity, yet access is unequal. 🌐 Globally, only 40% of primary, 50% of lower secondary, and 65% of upper secondary schools are connected to the Internet. On #WorldChildrensDay and every day we need to make sure all children everywhere have equal access to education. At Utilities One, we understand the transformative power of #broadband access on #education. This belief is deeply rooted in insights from leaders like Julius Genachowski, former #FCC Chairman, who underscored the necessity of broadband for educational participation. Under his leadership, the FCC initiated the National Broadband Plan and the Connect America Fund, striving to make high-speed #internet universally accessible. These efforts highlight a crucial message: without broadband access, students face significant hurdles in leveraging digital learning tools, emphasizing our desire to bridge the digital divide and foster equal educational opportunities for all children. #DigitalDivide #BroadbandAccess #EducationalEquity #FCCLeadership #NationalBroadbandPlan #ConnectAmerica #DigitalLearning #UtilitiesOne #BridgingTheGap #InclusiveEducation

We couldn't agree more with the Department of Education as it set its 2024 National Education Technology Plan, identifying three critical divides in digital use, design, and access. The Fiber Broadband Association and our members continue to advance fiber broadband networks so that every community, school, teacher, and student can access the power of reliable, high-performance broadband service. When fiber leads, the future follows! #fiberbroadband #digitaldivide #digitaleducation
"The Fiber Broadband Association applauds the Department of Education and its 2024 National Educational Technology Plan, which identifies three key digital divides limiting the potential of educational technology: digital use, digital design, and digital access. Our association and our members are working diligently to build the fiber broadband networks that will connect communities, schools, teachers, and students to powerful learning resources. Fiber broadband remains the most capable broadband technology to ensure reliable, long, lasting, high-speed networks are available to all so we can close the digital divide on every level." - Gary Bolton, President & CEO, Fiber Broadband Association

📚 Exciting News from the FCC! 📚 I am absolutely thrilled to share some amazing news that resonates deeply with my passion for education and equitable access to learning resources. The FCC has just unveiled a groundbreaking initiative that hits close to home for me. As someone who believes in the transformative power of education, this announcement truly warms my heart. The article linked below sheds light on the FCC's commitment to bridging the digital divide and fostering emergency connectivity for schools and libraries. With an allocation of $46 million in emergency connectivity funds, they are taking significant strides to ensure that students and learners of all ages have the resources they need to thrive in today's digital world. Read the article here: FCC Unveils $46M in Emergency Connectivity Funds for Schools & Libraries 🌐 It's no secret that the past couple of years have emphasized the importance of remote learning and virtual access to information. However, not everyone has had equal access to these opportunities. This initiative is a step towards leveling the playing field and making education accessible to every eager mind, regardless of their circumstances. As someone who has personally experienced the transformative power of education, I can't help but be excited about this initiative. It brings us one step closer to a world where every student can explore, learn, and grow without limitations. Let's celebrate this milestone and continue advocating for initiatives that support education and empowerment for all. I'm inspired by the FCC's dedication to creating a brighter, more inclusive future. #EducationForAll #DigitalEquity #LearningOpportunities #FCCConnectivityInitiative

Let’s face it: education doesn’t stop once a student or library patron leaves campus. The FCC’s proposal enables schools and libraries to secure E-Rate funding for Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless internet access, ensuring continuity in addressing the #HomeworkGap as the ECF concludes. However, the Heritage Foundation has made broad arguments opposing the Federal Communications Commission proposal. In response, SHLB partnered with the American Library Association and Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) to refute these claims. Take a look at our letter here: https://buff.ly/4aSa2LN Bridging the homework gap is crucial not only for students to engage in remote learning but also for our shared economic future as technology becomes increasingly integrated into various aspects of our lives. So, the question is: Do you think this plan will bring us closer to bridging the Homework Gap? Or will it push us further away? Read our recent blog post about this issue here: https://buff.ly/4aYKZHe #SHLB is working to close the #DigitalDivide one anchor institution at a time.
