As we end this Black History Month, let's reflect on the strides made toward healthcare equity. On November 19, 1945, President Harry Truman proposed a national healthcare plan, recognizing healthcare as a fundamental human right. Yet, it wasn't until July 30, 1965, that President Lyndon Johnson signed the Medicare Act into law, fulfilling Truman's vision. When the Medicare Act was implemented on July 1, 1966, many hospitals were still segregated, which did not align with the new Medicare law. Their commitment echoes today as we continue the fight for inclusive healthcare access for all. #BlackHistoryMonth #HealthcareEquity https://lnkd.in/eNQsHsrf.

Pharma, managed care, insurance, Hospital and Healthcare systems, medical device companies...STOP SPONSORING AND FUNDING patient advocacy organizations who won't invest and do the hard work of creating equity and access to their "patient services". You are sponsoring their events, trials, studies, and programming, while Black patients continue to be disincluded and have the worst outcomes and experience PREVENTABLE DISEASE AND DEATH. Ask the necessary questions and find out how much of your financial support is actually moving the needle forward for marginalized communities. BE WARY OF ASSOCIATING YOUR REPUTATIONS WITH DECADES OLD "ADVOCACY" ORGANIZATIONS THAT PUT BLACK PEOPLE ON THE BROCHURES BUT DON'T TRULY CARE ABOUT THEIR HEALTH OUTCOMES.
