In laser cuttting we are at 85kw at the moment, in defense laser system they speak about 500kw. Where this power will stop? Probably the biggest problem is energy needed for run such are laser.
Semiconductor fiber laser technology developer nLIGHT, Inc. , via nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems, Inc., was awarded additional options that more than double the previously announced contract to produce a high-energy laser prototype as part of the second phase of the United States Department of Defense’s High Energy Laser Scaling Initiative (HELSI). #photonics #PhotonicsSpectra

Congratulations to Dr. Ingmar Schoel from the College of Engineering for his recently granted patent - System and Method for Focusing Color Schlieren Diagnostics! This invention allows for visualization of the movement of fluid flows, even ones that aren't visible to the naked eye. The new method captures these changes in fluid flows to accurately report changes like temperature, pressure, chemical reactions, and the formation of new leaks. Unlike previous Schlieren diagnostics techniques, which took a lengthy set-up and calibration period due to a unique computer integration, even a novice can set up this imaging tool. It can also color code the images, a different color representing a flow dimension. One of the many uses for a technology like this is for aerospace, combustion, and propulsion! Designing better and safer rockets, propulsion systems, and airplanes is made easier by using this invention! Want to talk to someone about licensing this patent?
