Hey folks! I need your help to wish my friends Blind Beginnings a sweet 16! Blind Beginnings was founded by Shawn Marsolais who encourages a limitless philosophy in all they do. "Limitless is about educating the public about the abilities and potential of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. The idea that the only limitations that exist for these BC youth are the ones that society places on them is crucial to understand in order to fully embrace equity and inclusion in all aspects." Recently I was gifted the opportunity to spend time with two of their team members Rob Mineault and Lia Dicicco and it was incredible to see how their limitless philosophy is embedded in the essential and critical education programs and services they provide for children and youth in BC who are blind or partially sighted. If, like me, you don't have lived experience with being blind or partially sighted, then you and I need to educate ourselves on in how to create spaces that are welcome for folks who are. How we do that is by activating our learning to expand our understanding and knowledge to be better employers, colleagues, friends and allies. And before we get stuck in the "but where do we start" zone, we can skip directly to being activated in action as Blind Beginnings has ample ways to get our learning activated. As example, here is a non-exhaustive list of what activated action looks like: Follow Blind Beginnings! Book a Blindness 101 Workshop! https://lnkd.in/gwTH4jdb Listen to the Limitless podcast! https://lnkd.in/gfyr4JSq Read the Limitless blog! https://lnkd.in/g7e_ig6M Tell our networks about Blind Beginnings! Let's be activated action takers and give Blind Beginnings a fantastically impactful sweet 16 birthday celebration! #BlindBeginnings #DEI #BlindnessAwareness
Blind Beginnings is 16! Blind Beginnings was first formed as a Society on this day, February 25th, 2008. Since then, the organization and its team has been working tirelessly on supporting and inspiring children and youth who are blind or partially sighted. With the help of our many supporters, donors, and team members (past and present), Blind Beginnings has grown and evolved as an organization, spreading awareness about the capabilities of children and youth who are blind or partially sighted while providing learning, support, and services to their entire families. We want to take this opportunity on this very special day to give a huge thank you to all of you who have supported us or been involved with us over the past 16 years – we couldn’t have done it without you. Today’s anniversary celebration belongs to every one of you as well. You can learn a bit more about the backstory of the founding of Blind Beginnings below: https://lnkd.in/dBrRyepS #HappyAnniversary #SixteenCandles #BlindBeginnings

🎉 Save the Date: Sept 21, 2024! 🎉 🌟 Join Us for the 2nd Annual Cornhole for a Cause! 🌟 🔹 When: Sept 21, 2024 🔹 What: Fun cornhole tournament benefiting Kids Mobility Network. 🔹 Why: Help children with disabilities get essential medical equipment. Children with physical disabilities face unique challenges. They often require durable medical equipment (DME) like wheelchairs and walkers. However, as they grow, their needs evolve, and the cost of replacing outgrown equipment becomes a significant burden for their families. This is where Kids Mobility Network comes in. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, they provide a lifeline for these families. They collect outgrown DME, refurbish it, and match it to children who need it most. Through their efforts, they ensure that every child has access to the equipment they need to thrive and participate fully in their community. 🔹 How: Attend, sponsor, and spread the word! Together, let's play for a purpose and make a difference in the lives of children in need! 🌟

Director Projects & Research | Partner to Progress | Transformational Change Leader | Team Champion | TEDx & JOSH Talks
As the upcoming CATS 49th Voluntary Blood Donation Camp approaches next month, I am contemplating the factors contributing to its enduring success over the past 16 years, particularly considering its management by a dedicated team of volunteers. Voluntary team management of CATS has embedded collaboration and cooperation as the guiding principle. By developing these, everyone feels valued and aligned with the team's mission and vision. Everyone has learnt the process by working in different positions over a number of camps, so they understand how every cog in the wheel is connected to ensure comfort for the donors. This experience has provided clarity of goals to provide direction and purpose. Leading by example in every position has motivated the team and encouraged new volunteers to follow suit, confidently and respectfully. Since each volunteer knows that their time and effort is being valued, it has helped open dialogue to encourage team inputs. Clear deliverables and open discussions have helped resolve any confusion or conflict that naturally crops up in a functioning team. Invariably every team member has demonstrated commitment and positive behaviour, by taking responsibility for communication gaps - magic word is sorry and magic action is a handshake or a hug, based on mutual comfort. is there something CATS can learn from you to improve further? #Leadership #TeamManagement #Assertiveness #VolunteerManagement #EffectiveCommunication #ConflictResolution

If you would like to support the efforts in Maui, see the go fund me link in the following.
Executive Coach | Organizational Energy Catalyst | Co-creator of Reset & Rewire, Redefine & Align, Recalibrate for Impact
When I first learned about the fires in Maui, I literally clutched my heart. I couldn't breathe. The tragedy, the destruction, the human trauma was utterly unspeakable, unimaginable. Like you, probably, I was first horrified, and then wanted to do something to help. My girls were born in Hawaii - we are kama‘aina and we honor the spiritual intent behind that, which means "I am a child of that which feeds me. I therefore have a duty to it. I need to malama [care for] that which sustains me.” In other words, kama‘aina isn’t so much about being "local" or a birthplace, as it is about a fully intentional way to live. It’s about loving the ‘aina [land] and loving those around you with depth, sincerity and honor. It is with that spirit that I reach out to you, my friends and community, to ask for your support. You see, my daughter Kaia and I are organizing a drive to create Backpacks of Hope for the keiki of Maui with a group of 300 moms and daughters, grades 6 through 12 living in Scottsdale, Arizona. Together with the Maui Boys and Girls Club, our partner in this effort, our vision is simple: provide children ages 9-17 in Maui with a backpack filled not just with essential school supplies and personal hygiene items, but most of all, an encouraging hand-written letter from other kids to support them as they start a new school year amidst tremendous loss and uncertainty. However, we have met a challenge. As we are writing these letters, child to child, family to family, and creating these Backpacks of Hope, we urgently need help covering the cost of shipping of the backpacks to Maui. So, just this morning, we decided to create a GoFundMe campaign, to ensure that these Backpacks of Hope reach the children they are meant for. Would you please consider contributing even a few dollars? https://gofund.me/860d7044 Every dollar you contribute will go directly to shipping costs, bridging the gap between intention and impact, and turning our collective effort into tangible support for Maui's children. Let's join hands and hearts to rebuild the future of Maui's children, one backpack at a time. Much love and aloha Lee Ann
