Eating disorders are pervasive and life-threatening. They are mental illnesses with often severe physical repercussions, and they have the potential to cause lifelong harm to a person of any age, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status. Missouri Eating Disorders Association presents at schools in the Greater St. Louis region to educate the most vulnerable populations - our kids, tweens, and teenagers - on the signs and symptoms of eating disorders. The two main takeaways of the presentation? 1. How to ask for help for yourself or a friend ("tell a trusted adult!"), and 2. Recovery is possible. I believe so fully in the importance of this program and the incredible capabilities of the MOEDA team. Early education and prevention of eating disorders saves lives. The students we serve - and all kids - deserve full lives filled with the regular ups & downs that life undoubtedly brings. Together, we can fight eating disorders, strengthen our community, and work to change the narrative of diet culture. Today is GiveSTL Day. Please consider supporting MOEDA. Thank you! https://lnkd.in/gAvpTeNi

Excited to have the opportunity to volunteer with RMHC. Research indicates supporting the entire family during a child’s critical illness can improve resilience, reduce stress and enhance wellbeing for several crucial reasons: ✅ Emotional Well-Being: A child’s illness affects the entire family - parents, siblings, and extended family members experience stress, anxiety, and fear. ✅ Practical Assistance: Supporting the whole family enables the sharing of responsibilities to alleviate the daily burden of families managing critical illnesses. ✅ Financial Strain: Community resources, counselling, and financial aid can ease the burden of medical expenses. ✅ Sibling Support: Emotional support for siblings of critically ill children can ease related disruption and anxiety. ✅ Parental Health: Support for parents to assist in the maintenance of their own physical and mental health can assist in the provision of better care. ✅ Family Dynamics: Critical illnesses strain family relationships. Open communication, counselling, and support groups can help maintain healthy dynamics and ease the strain on family relationships. ✅ Child’s Recovery: Improved positive health outcomes have been linked to the provision of a supportive family environment.
While big brother Aidan is in the hospital, the Kam family have a warm, comforting place to stay close to him at RMHC Toronto. "When I'm at the hospital, I'm so grateful to know my littlest ones are just a short walk away with their dad, and I don’t have a long drive home at night," says mom, Aimee. "And thanks to RMHC Toronto’s meal program. I know that my family is eating well, too, when I can’t be around to cook." Your support is life-changing for families like the Kams.
