Was that MassDEP at Coast Guard Base Boston? Yes, it was! Assistant Commissioner Millie Garcia-Serrano (BWSC) and MOSPRA Coordinator Julie Hutcheson were among the guests in attendance for the U.S. Coast Guard's recent change of command ceremony, in which Captain Kailie J. Benson transferred command of the Coast Guard Base Boston to Captain Jaime C. Frederick. Captain Benson was also honored for 31 remarkable years of service, which included protecting Massachusetts’ marine ecosystem and coastal natural resources. Many thanks to the U.S. Coast Guard for the opportunity to celebrate this time-honored military tradition right here in Boston, the birthplace of the U. S. Coast Guard. 📷 MassDEP/BWSC #semperparatus #USCG #USCGBoston #protectourwater #massachusetts #Boston #birthplace #USCG #coastguard #captain #BWSC

Read the latest column from Mark Norman, former Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy | Marine royale canadienne and Senior Defence Strategist with Samuel Associates. "We should feel very fortunate in Canada that we have the luxury of “choice” when it comes to how to build and “employ” armed forces; let’s not squander this enviable privilege by choosing the easy path to war-fighting impotence and further international irrelevance." Celebrating Armed Forces Day today, the day to honor all who serve or have served in the United States branches of the Department of Defense, both active-duty and former, in the reserves, National Guard or on active duty. Armed Forces Day was created on August 31, 1949, by Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force commemoration Days, following the Armed Forces’ unification under one Department of Defense by President Harry S. Truman, when he signed the National Security Act into law on July 26, 1947. OF NOTE: While the U.S. Coast Guard does not technically fall under the Department of Defense when not at war, the National Security Act of 1947 was very specific about the term “Armed Forces” in the definitions, which reads, “The term ‘Armed Forces’ means the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.” We salute and honor all who serve and have served among our current and former Shannon & Wilson staff, our subcontractors and other teaming partners, and of course, all of our Department of Defense and U.S. Coast Guard clients. #ArmedForcesDay #DepartmentOfDefense #MilitaryAppreciation #USMilitary #Veterans #NationalGuard #CoastGuard #MilitaryHistory #HonorOurTroops #usarmy #usnavy #usmarines

#navalintegration is occurring at all echelons primarily with an emphasis at the Fleet and MARFOR level, or lower, small unit level. However, for the Navy DMO will still be executed at the CSG level. It would be wise for the FMF to start integrating with CSG training events to understand how the Navy will plan and execute operations in the "blue" water, so Marines can conduct operations in the "brown" water littoral areas and enable DMO. I encourage FMF units to reach out to CSG-4 (East Coast) / CSG-15 (West Coast) and see if they can participate in CSG events beyond current efforts. Marines will learn a lot which will better inform planners and commanders on how best to employ FMF forces, and the Navy will see the Marine Corps can contribute to the DMO fight.
“The command’s core mission to train, mentor, and assess integrated maritime forces for worldwide assignment is informed by the current and projected strategic security environment,” said Rear Adm. Max “Pepper” McCoy, commander, CSG-4. “Recent armed conflicts remind us of the imperative for naval forces to train to any threat environment they may encounter, and underscores the complexity facing commanders leading teams from the East Coast who may operate in the U.S. Sixth, Fifth, or Seventh Fleet areas of operation.” Check out RDML McCoy’s article, “Bringing the Team Together: Integrated Training for Tactical Advantage,” about the teamwork across the Navy, Joint, and combined team to deliver warfighting capability here: https://lnkd.in/eS8Mf9rb #training #teamwork #maritimediplomacy #allies #LiveVirtualConstructive #LVC #BlueGreenTeam cc: U.S. Fleet Forces Command Fleet Marine Force Atlantic, Marine Forces Command, Marine Forces Northern Command U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet II Marine Expeditionary Force STRIKFORNATO | Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO U.S. Navy Reserve Commander Naval Surface Force Atlantic Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic Commander, Naval Information Forces

Royal Navy UK Ministry of Defence GOV.UK what do you consider modern about wanting a Capt.(RN) to carry out the duties of a Commodore but without receiving the recognised pay of a Commodore? 🤔 (See first picture comment). Full Steam Astern? If this is how high ranking officers are treated in a modern Navy, then God help the ratings! #lostatsea

🌅On my sunrise walk I stood in awe of this view. Nestled on the sun-kissed shores of California, the San Diego Naval Base stands as a formidable pillar of American strength and resilience. This iconic military installation is not just a testament to the unwavering spirit of the US Navy it is a cornerstone of our nation's defense strategy, safeguarding the freedoms and safety of Americans across the land and beyond. The San Diego Naval Base plays a pivotal role in ensuring the readiness of our naval forces, serving as a premier Pacific Fleet headquarters. It's here that sailors and Marines rigorously prepare for global missions, embodying the valor and dedication that define American patriotism. The base is a hub of technological innovation and strategic military planning, directly contributing to the peace and security we cherish. This bastion of democracy is more than a military facility; it is a symbol of American perseverance, a guardian of the Pacific, and an advocate for peace in tumultuous times. It represents the best of American values: courage, commitment, and camaraderie. As we reflect on the importance of the San Diego Naval Base, let us renew our commitment to supporting our armed forces and remembering the sacrifices made for our freedom. Together, we stand united in gratitude and pride for those who defend our great nation. #SanDiegoNavalBase #TalentPipeline #BuildSubmarines #AmericanPride #USNavy #NationalSecurity #Patriotism #MilitaryStrength #PacificFleet #FreedomDefenders #NavalValor #TechnologyInDefense

Military-to-mariner is one of the most important programs for national security and one of the most unknown. I’m not going to lie, it has its problems and our SWO CO’s are often too busy to advocate because there are administrative hurdles but the rewards are worth the effort. In short if you are surface warfare nobody’s going to hold your hand through the process but the rewards are immense. Military sealift command is offering $50,000 bonus for Damage Control specialist and a $100,000 salary plus a continuation of your federal benefits! And you the pay in the commercial sector is even greater! You can step out an be making more money than most graduates of ivy league colleges. Added bonus: most commercial sector merchant mariners get 5+ months vacation every year! The state maritime academies like NY maritime College actively recruit navy enilisted sailors too and have financial aid and GI bill specialists on staff… giving you a clear path to the officer ranks. Many officers like Matt Evers, CLTD have received masters degrees in maritime logistics while on active duty. This program doesn’t include the license but a smart SWO can attend SUNY Maritime while active duty and use military-to-mariner credits to get a license… then sail a few years and step directly into a shipping executive role. But this program isn’t just about helping veterans… it’s about helping the military. The US Merchant Marine will be deployed forward in the event of a global crisis but few of us know anything about military operations. There is a desperate need for SSO reservists and prior military to help integrate merchant ships with military activities during times of war. I’m not going to lie, this isn’t an easy path, you’ll have to jump through beaurocratic hurdles - but there are people in the USCG, US Merchant Marine and Navy who are standing by to help… and Kara has the contacts to get you started 👇
