India's Rising Influence in Global Oil Products Market Since 2022: IEA The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated on Wednesday that India's significance as a global supplier of refined petroleum products has grown since 2022. This shift comes as the loss of Russian exports to European markets increased the demand for Asian diesel and jet fuel, pulling them westward. India began its journey towards Ethanol blending in 2003. However, it was not until 2018 with the launch of the National Biofuels Policy that the country was able to establish an illustrative goal of achieving a 20% Ethanol blend with petrol by 2025. The country, even after having a comprehensive policy framework incentivising the production and blending of Ethanol currently stands at a blending rate of 12%, with only a year left to achieve the 20% blending target. This evidences the need for increased participation from all stakeholders especially, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), to scale up the supply and distribution of Ethanol. Taking these blending targets into consideration, Indian Oil, one of the largest OMCs of India has rolled out high-octane E100 fuel in 183 fuel stations across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi, and Tamil Nadu collectively. In an attempt to move towards the Ethanol blending target of 20% by 2025, other OMCs have also scaled up the distribution of E20 to 12,000 outlets within a year and cemented long-term off-take agreements with 131 Ethanol plants to provide an anticipated boost of 745 crore litres of additional capacity. We are hopeful that other OMCs will take notice and will also look to scale up the distribution of Ethanol, along with investments in storage support and Infrastructure to keep up with upscaled blending. This move is likely to open up new avenues for investment and strategic partnership opportunities for stakeholders in the industry. Our legal experts have taken a deep dive into the policy regime of Biofuels and on possible opportunities and challenges in the sector, in the webinar linked below. #7. Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) LPG holds a fascinating origin story—it was serendipitously discovered by the renowned US chemist Dr. Snelling. His discovery occurred when a motorist reported losing half of his gasoline from his Ford Model T during the journey home from the fuel station. Dr. Snelling realized that the lost portion had turned into vapor, which we now recognize as LPG. Liquified under modest pressure, this flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases, primarily propane and butane, presents numerous advantages compared to other fuels. It offers high efficiency and environmental responsibility. Utilizing LPG yields, substantial energy with significantly lower emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. Moreover, it serves as an excellent alternative to coal and wood, contributing to cleaner energy usage The journey of LPG in India began in 1955, 45 years after its initial discovery in 1910. Since then, its adoption has steadily grown, with current consumption standing at approximately 28 MMTPA. Projections suggest this figure will rise to 32 MMTPA by 2025 and potentially reach 45 MMTPA by 2040. This upward trajectory is also reflected in import figures, with imports surging from 11 MMT in 2017-18 to 18.5 MMT in 2023-24. Who could have imagined that a product discovered by chance would become a major energy source for our country, empowering households nationwide. Every year, June 7th is celebrated as World LPG Day to raise awareness about the benefits of LPG. As we mark this day (it was yesterday though), let's recognize the significant role this gas plays in our energy landscape, driving efficiency, sustainability, and a cleaner future for all. #HPCL #HPGAS #LPG #OIL&GAS #ENERGY #INDIAENERGY #SUSTAINABILITY #CLIMATECHANGE #EFFICIENCY

Announcing speakers of our webinar titled ‘India’s Plan to Transition Towards a Greater Share of Natural Gas’ on Thursday, March 14, 2024 – 4:00 – 5:00 PM IST. Mr. Rajesh K Mediratta, MD & CEO, Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) Mr. Avinash Pathak, Senior Vice President and Head FC&A – E&P Domestic, Reliance Industries Limited. Mr. Nishant Nehru, CFO, AG&P Pratham The session will be moderated by Ranjan Sharma, Senior Director, and there will also be a presentation by Hardik Shah, Director, CareEdge Ratings. Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/dJJJyAnU India aims to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix from 6% in 2022 to 15% by 2030, focusing on sectors like fertilizers, city gas distribution, power, refineries, and petrochemicals. Despite past reliance on imports due to falling domestic production, significant domestic gas output growth from FY22 and expected increases in FY24 and FY25 offer hope for reduced import dependency. Regulatory steps to adjust domestic gas pricing, stabilizing imported gas prices, adequate LNG capacity, and expanding pipeline infrastructure support this shift towards a greater natural gas share. CareEdge Ratings invites you to a webinar to discuss these developments featuring a panel of industry experts. Key topics of discussion: ➡ Trend of gas consumption, domestic production and imports ➡ Key growth drivers for domestic gas consumption ➡ Factors leading to growth in domestic gas production ➡ Pricing of various sources of gas ➡ Key sectoral challenges #CareEdgeInsights #CareEdgeAt30 #CareEdgeWebinars #NaturalGas
