I am reminded every day why the work of Women in Automotive Technology (WAT) is important. I founded Women in Auto Tech to showcase women subject matter experts, raise their profiles, and let their voices be heard. Women are in trucking, work at truck OEMs, and are fully capable of moderating a truck panel. The automotive industry needs to showcase female subject matter experts, increase the number of female executives, and at the absolute very least, put an end to the "manel". I am calling out disparities and working towards creating a more diverse industry. Join me. Join Women in Automotive Technology (WAT) #DiversityandInclusion

As Cheryl Thompson, DEI Champion for Automotive, says in this latest video series from the Automotive Women's Alliance Foundation, we should question why we introduce or refer to women with certain "pre-qualifying" statements. For example: "Actually, she is a great engineer ... for a woman." "You know ... for a woman ... she is a great writer." There isn't a need for phrases like "actually," "you know," or "for a woman." If we don't introduce men the same way, then why women? These may appear as insignificant sayings, but at the end of the day, they tremendously impact the women around us. For women who need encouragement, and for men who want to learn more, I cannot recommend this series enough, produced by In Altum Productions and Axel Cooley✨✨ These are the first videos in the Breaking Barriers series from AWAF, but more will be released. In these first two videos, we hear from Ashwini Balasubramanian and Kim Ziomek alongside Thompson. We share in their journey and understand more about what we can do to support the women in our lives. This International Women’s Day, let’s #inspireinclusion 🫶 The Women of Color Automotive Network is proud to celebrate the incredible contributions of women in the automotive industry. From engineers and designers to mechanics and executives, women are driving innovation and progress in this ever-evolving field. This year’s theme, #InspireInclusion calls on all of us to work together to create a world where women are not only at the table, but where their voices are heard and valued. We can achieve this by: 👩🏫 Mentoring and sponsoring the next generation of women in automotive. 💪 Challenging unconscious bias and promoting diversity in hiring practices. 🫶 Creating a culture of inclusion where everyone feels welcome and respected. #WOCAN #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #WomenInAutomotive

I help women in automotive and tech step up their confidence, visibility and self-advocacy | Executive Coach & Strategist | Bilingual Keynote Speaker | Cultural Fluency Expert | Founder GO BIG Coaching & Communications
Women Automotive Network asked about my advice to women in the automotive industry. Here's what I think (in a little more detail than in the pictured quote): Considering how male-dominated the sector still is, my number one advice would be not to normalize any non-inclusive structures and behaviors but to call them out actively. That can be very hard, especially for younger women, people of color, and members of other marginalized groups, so my second piece of advice would be to focus very strongly on building a strong and supportive professional network, to make sure you have allies/accomplices within and beyond your company. Automotive is already a pretty amazing industry, and I am convinced it will be a lot more attractive still once it is more representative of our societal makeup. And speaking of "strong and supportive professional network", that's of course exactly what #WomenAutomotiveNetwork is. Can't wait to meet so many #womeninautomotive in Stuttgart for the WAN Summit in September! Will you be there? Please comment so I can make sure we'll meet! #womenempoweringwomen #femaleleaders #womenintech #inclusion #inclusivelanguage
