[French Rail News] The fate of Railcoop, the French rail cooperative, is being decided today. 🚄 The rail cooperative wanted to relaunch the Bordeaux-Limoges-Lyon train line abandoned more than 10 years ago by Groupe SNCF. A great project led by Nicolas Debaisieux and his team. We believed in it, because Railcoop was : - 15,000 members - 10 million euros raised - Second-hand trains found (a new train costs 18 million euros). The idea was excellent: to link Bordeaux to Lyon without having to go back via Paris, to open up the West and the East. In fact, this line should never have stopped. So why has Railcoop reached what its chairman calls a ‘treasury impasse’? 1) It has not found the funds to renovate the railway equipment. 2) Another barrier to entry is the reluctance of banks to lend to a cooperative. 3) A market of large portfolios: the entry ticket to open a rail market is between 500 million and 1 billion (source: Agence Transmissions / France culture). This explains why mostly the mega-operators who were previously monopolies, such as the Groupe SNCF, Trenitalia in Italy and Renfe in Spain, are opening up lines. ❤️ Whatever happens today, Railcoop will have paved the way for others, bringing the social issue of trains back to the forefront and demonstrating the public's enthusiasm for new lines. For that, we at Nightgoes say THANK YOU. Thank you for believing, persevering and fighting! We also wish good luck to the new entrants: 🇮🇹 Italo Treno – NTV in Italy 🇨🇿 Leo Express in the Czech Republic 🇫🇷 And in France, 3 players are starting up: ➡️ Midnight Trains is seeking funding to open its top-of-the-range lines in 2025 ➡️ Le Train Voyage should be creating lines in the south-west by 2026 ➡️ Kevin Speed will be investing in the north-east with 3 routes: Lille-Paris, Paris-Lyon and Strasbourg-Paris 💫 We hope these new players will also get the night train moving! #train #nighttrain

Good morning everyone and a Happy New Year to you all. I hope you had a relaxing break and feel reinvigorated for 2024. I noticed a lot of conversation in my network around High-Speed Rail over the break and came across one interesting article in particular around the benefits of open competition in the space (see below) regarding driving significant growth in usage in the sector. I am sure I am not the only Sydneysider who would love to see an alternative route to Melbourne or Brisbane that doesn't involve airport delays, cramped seating, and getting into town from Tullamarine, etc. High-Speed rail offers a multitude of advantages that align with national government goals for sustainable development, attracting investment, improved connectivity, and enhanced economic competitiveness and growth. Perhaps time for a federal lead drive toward actually investing in this technology, and breaking the stranglehold the airlines have on these routes. #highspeedrail #railinfrastructure #railinnovation #weknowpeople https://lnkd.in/gCg8BMRN

Solidarity Transport Hub (STH) in Poland🇵🇱: The Key to the Future of Aviation and Transport 🛫 The Solidarity Transport Hub (STH) is not just a project set to revolutionize Poland's transport system, but also aims to position the country as a significant communication node in Central and Eastern Europe. Located between Warsaw and Łódź, the STH integrates air, rail, and road transport, marking it as one of the most crucial infrastructural initiatives in Poland. A few key details about STH: Upon its launch, the STH is expected to handle approximately 45 million passengers annually. In the long term, after further expansions and optimizations, the projected capacity could rise to as many as 100 million passengers per year. This vision would rank STH amongst the largest airports globally, inevitably turning Poland into a pivotal transit point for many traveling across Europe. According to the latest updates, the airport construction is anticipated to conclude by 2028, whereas the associated rail infrastructure development will continue until 2035. Such capacity not only signifies the ability to accommodate a larger number of passengers but also paves the way for new air routes, a broader spectrum of airlines operating in Poland, and enhancing the country's appeal for tourism and business. In an era of globalization and the increasing demand for swift international connections, the STH represents a significant step forward in Poland's transport infrastructure development, playing a pivotal role in the nation's economic growth. 📹Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (YT) 🌎 Do you like it? A consortium of companies has announced plans to launch a high-speed train service to rival Eurostar using the Channel Tunnel. The new service between Paris and London could start in 2025 under the name "Evolyn". Eurostar, currently the only company to offer this service, is a 55 percent subsidiary of French national railway operator SNCF. A spokesman for the Getlink group, which operates the tunnel under the Channel, says the company "has always had the ambition to have more high-speed traffic through the tunnel, whether incumbents or new entrants". Renfe, the Spanish national rail operator, had indicated in 2021 its aim to launch a high-speed train between Paris and London. And Getlink said last year it planned to buy high-speed trains to lease to rail companies interested in competing with Eurostar. Renfe is already operating a direct train between Barcelona and Lyon. The high-speed line between Paris and London allows connections between the capitals in two hours and 15 minutes through the Channel Tunnel. Presumably, with a rival company offering service, prices will come down. europeanamericantravel.com

Fantastic turnout for the Rail Partners Open Access Summit today, focused on unlocking the benefits of open access across Britain’s network. Open access operations make use of available capacity on our railways to deliver additional passenger services, through track access agreements, at full commercial risk to the operator. Independent research for Rail Partners shows ‘on-rail’ competition, including through open access can deliver substantial benefits, from greater choice, to increased services, lower fares and more innovation. There’s more information on the summit in our news release here: https://lnkd.in/ezi9WxX4 For more on the benefits of open access, see section 3 of our Track to Growth report https://lnkd.in/esUPurdT Office of Rail and Road (ORR), Arriva Group,Transport UK Group, MTR Corporation Limited 香港鐵路有限公司, Trenitalia, FirstGroup plc, Angel Trains, Network Rail, Great British Railways Transition Team (GBRTT) , Huw Merriman , Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, Lumo, Hull Trains, Grand Central Rail

Momentarily knocked sideways by being the wrong colour, gender and age, I should point out that MEMRAP as a volunteer group is entirely open to diversity - but choice in central Derbyshire is limited. A recent warm welcome to our first active female project team member is already promising to lift performance. Our "pitch" includes alleviation of Transport Related Social Exclusion (success bringing a likely further source of diversity). In this context, Network Rail has advised that a Peaks and Dales Line reinstatement would provide relief to the WCML congestion arising from recent developments. To this forum the question is: Should a returning St Pancras to Manchester service (via Leicester and Derby) be TOC or Open operated?

Huge congratulations to Getlink for celebrating 30 years! Bring Back Euro Trains applauds its commitment to providing effective, eco-friendly solutions to mobility and transport issues. Over the years, Getlink has positioned itself as a trailblazer and key actor in the rail transport industry. To continue to champion our environment, we need more bold initiatives, as proposed by Yann Leriche, which focus on doubling direct high-speed services. Direct trains should especially be prioritised, as they emit significantly less carbon dioxide than non-direct train journeys. Before March 2020, passengers from Kent were able to take a direct train from Ashford and Ebbsfleet stations into Europe, a service which was abruptly stopped due to Coronavirus. Three years later, this service has yet to resume, to the detriment of Kent’s economy and environment, and other residents from regions nearby who used to benefit from it. Bring Back Euro Trains exists to support the return of cross-channel trains to the Kent stations it used to serve. We invite Getlink to support the expansion of its proposed London to continental Europe services to call at Ashford and Ebbsfleet International Stations. This would not only benefit Kent residents and business owners who especially moved to the area for the attractive European connection, but also residents in other regions who preferred to stop at Ashford station to get a train into Europe. The future of rail is green. We welcome future initiatives which will take this reinstatement into consideration for the good of the environment and more seamless connectivity between post-Brexit Great Britain and Europe. #international #rail #transportation #sustainability #sustainabletransport #ecofriendly #travel #sncf

𝗟𝘂𝘅𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗴 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲! As early supporters of the Luxembourg Rail Protocol, the Alpha Trains Group is delighted that it has finally entered into force. This is a significant milestone for the global rail industry. (photo: Informal meeting of the Railworking Group at the Innotrans 2022 hosted by the Alpha Trains Group) The Luxembourg Rail Protocol enhances legal certainty offering rolling stock lessors, lenders and investors a robust legal framework that mitigates risks, and increases the security of their investments. With its international registry, rights and interests in rolling stock will be recognised and protected across borders, giving us a stronger foundation for global operations. The positive impact of the Luxembourg Rail Protocol on financing costs, asset recovery processes and investor and lessor confidence is an important step forward in making rail transport an even more attractive and sustainable option for the future. We look forward to reaping the benefit of it under our futures financing transactions. #LuxembourgRailProtocol #RailIndustry #RollingStockLeasing #SustainableTransport #GlobalRail Howard Rosen CBE Laetitia Vauchez Simon Härle
