As we approach Memorial Day, a solemn day of remembrance and reflection, it's disheartening to see the usual trend of retailers remaining open, prioritizing profits over pause. While I understand the dynamics of commerce, this day should be an exception. It's a day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, not a day for sales and revenue. Equally conflicting are the posts that will soon flood our feeds, offering thanks to our veterans while simultaneously promoting profit-generating activities. This dichotomy does not sit well with me. Memorial Day is not just another holiday; it's a day of national reverence. I urge businesses and individuals alike in the future, to consider the true meaning of this day. Let's dedicate it to genuine reflection and honor, not to the pursuit of profit. Let's show our respect not just in words but in actions that align with the spirit of Memorial Day. #MemorialDay #Honor #Reflection #Respect 🇺🇸🫡

MEMORIAL MUSINGS. This being the week of Memorial Day, it got me to thinking about history, and how the world has changed drastically in some ways, yet not changed much in others. Would you agree that the pace of change has suddenly sped up over the past five years, and many of the changes are things we could never have imagined a decade or two ago? Yet, in other ways, things seem to have come full circle around to how they used to be long ago. Here are a few examples of some ‘new’ changes and some that have ‘changed back’: https://lnkd.in/dK9GMieh What examples could you add to this? Let’s see how we can expand on the topic in the comments! #ChangeManagement #WorkManagement —————- I’m Andre, Co-Founder and C.E.O. of #Optevo, and my, and my team’s mission, is to ensure your work life doesn’t become your life’s work. I help manufacturing companies make huge profits and enhance people's lives by building remarkable automation and information systems in less than 2 weeks, empowering them for success.
It seems like a lot of US Federal Holidays seem to have fallen by the wayside since March 2020. As a leader of a company who thrives with an extremely diverse team it baffles me the manufacturing world as a whole doesn’t observe Dr. Martin Luther King Day. ESPECIALLY companies who make a big deal about DEI. We still have massive injustice in the world and obviously taking a day off work even if everyone used that day to effect positive change won’t fix that. Still, not even stopping to reflect on and respect the work the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement did, and think about all the work people are doing today is a clear sign a lot of people who could make positive impact on the world will simply continue to choose the status quo. It will take a huge shift in people’s mindsets to be more empathetic to everyone in the world, work to battle prejudice, injustice, and brutality in the world, and constant re-evaluation and adjustment to make the world a better place. The lowest hanging fruit we can all grab is to spend today focusing on how we can improve as individuals and build habits into our lives to do better because doing the same things we have been willing to do only keep us on the treadmill of the present moment. I’ll see you all again for Juneteenth. Note: I do have a few people working today because the bills need to be paid and manufacturing doesn’t stop, although they still get a day to observe the holiday.

04 JUL 2024: Seeing “Happy 4th of July” in TV, email and LinkedIn advertisements and posts, in stores and in text message ads received today. Prompts pause and reflection on the Revolutionary War and annual celebration of nationhood. A recent conversation with a high school teacher prompted me to send out a message earlier today to family members (we have several Veterans and Active Duty in our extended family and young parents), sharing here: I'd ask you to consider the difference between saying “Happy Independence Day” vs. “Happy 4th of July.” "Happy Independence Day" keeps the name of this historic freedom and liberty anniversary front and center. It clearly honors those who fought and secured our independence and recognizes those who continue to protect our liberty and freedom. Happy 4th of July appears to celebrate the day of the month. Recent surveys note many Americans aren’t aware of the origin of this holiday and a tenured HS teacher I met shared this same concern. Consider, we don’t say Merry December 25th, it’s Merry Christmas. It’s not Happy January 1, it’s Happy New Year’s Day. It's not Happy (insert month and day here) said lovingly to your significant other or spouse, it's Happy Anniversary. Juneteenth celebrated annually on June 19th isn’t Happy June 19th, it's Happy Juneteenth! St. Patrick's Day celebrated annually on March 17th isn't Happy March 17th, it's Happy St. Patrick's Day! Flag Day celebrated annually on June 14th isn’t Happy June 14th, it’s Happy Flag Day! Veterans Day observed annually on Nov 11th isn't Happy Nov 11th, it's Happy Veterans Day! While Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day and more are set, the actual date of month changes each year, we don't celebrate the date, we celebrate the historic event on that floating date. I'd ask you to consider the power of language and how we frame the celebration today with our younger family members :) Happy Independence Day to all!
