Executive Director of Military at Cushman & Wakefield | People-Connector | Business Relationships | Advisor | Talent | US Marine Veteran
"Civilian employers and Skillbridge are competition against active duty or reserve military service". I have heard this a few times. I understand how it can be viewed as such, but I disagree. The US Armed Forces has been facing a recruiting crisis for some time, for a few reasons. - Only ~25% of military aged Americans are eligible for military service because of disqualifications like physical standards/medical reasons, criminality or deficient education. - About 9% of military aged men and women have any interest in military service, for various reasons to include economical, political, geo-political...etc. Many people join the military for the experience, vocation, benefits, education...etc. Some due to family legacy. Some out of pure desire to serve. Military and governmental leaders must encourage education, encourage internship, encourage networking during military service - then said service has the opportunity to become like the best colleges and educational institutions on earth - everyone wants to join because of the career opportunities on the other side. If everyone lands a solid opportunity on the back end - it's no longer "service"...it's a great opportunity that costs only time.

PSA: Transitioning from the military is hard. Please don't make it harder. If you are applying for a SkillBridge internship, job, or school, please treat every contact you make like you are contacting your commander. As SkillBridge providers (and also retired E-9s), it pains us to see some of the emails we receive. If your Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, or Guardians are transitioning, PLEASE talk to them. Offer to help them! Transitioning is hard! If you are still in, it will be hard when you do it. We desperately want to help transitioning service members, but we need them to have some skin in the game. If they cannot take the time to write a basic email with proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, it is hard for us to send them to our partner organizations in good faith.

Military Outreach Coordinator @John Deere | USAF Veteran | Business Operations Management | Project Management | Continuous Improvement | Program Management
Transitioning out of the military can be scary. That's a well-known fact. Another well-known fact is we have an entire dedicated military outreach team here at Deere for the sole purpose of making it a whole lot easier. How do we do that? When you go to Deere.com/JDMHP and fill out a contact card according to your interest in types of roles and locations, you are assigned a personal one-on-one go to liaison for navigating those opportunities and help answer any related questions or concerns. Have a question on what types of roles are in your locations of interest? We have answers for that. We have tons of opportunities nationwide at our major manufacturing facilities/offices or through our dealership network. Have a question on how far out you can gain approval for a DoD SkillBridge/CSP Internship or how your terminal leave, separation dates, or questions about the application process relate to your unique situation? We got that covered too! Connect with our team through filling out a contact card at Deere.com/JDMHP and let us connect with you to show how we can best custom fit a roadmap just for you. United States Marine Corps makes about-face on decision to cut #skillbridge transition time in half https://lnkd.in/e3G59it2. Active Duty Marines will remain eligible for a full six-month civilian sector internship program. Marines won't be forced to forfeit terminal leave by taking it concurrently with a shortened 90-day internship. The Marine Corps will not solve recruiting and, more importantly, retention shortfalls by squeezing out a few more months of esprit de corps from EAS'ing Marines. 99% of Marines transition back to the CIVDIV. Yet, this inevitability is not part of the USMC Talent Management Campaign Plan https://lnkd.in/eG8CDBt4. Make it harder to get out; the more Marines will want to (MCDP 1). What’s my WHY⁉️ In 2018 I volunteered at a Veterans homeless Stand Down, and ran into a person I was stationed with 12 years earlier…unfortunately they were enrolled in HUDVASH and weren’t one of the other volunteers.
