“Intentional Leadership Development” - I really like the sound of that. We should strive for #intentionality in all that we do (parenting, work, choosing where to spend our precious time) - but in #Leadership Development, especially, I think. A good article by Linda McMahon, NACD.DC in D Magazine - Leadership Development happens at every stage in one’s career… and there are many ways to lead and to be led. It’s a continuum. We should all be intentional about how and what that looks like. My involvement with The Real Estate Council (TREC) for nearly the past two decades has helped to shape, develop, and grow my leadership skills over that period of time, and I would encourage everyone to find an INTENTIONAL way to get involved - both to serve and to be served… wherever you may lie on that continuum.

Does your exec team have a playbook? Meaning, clear agreements on the key questions to work together effectively and efficiently to run your org? Jeff Rosenthal's article today on Forbes outlines a simple yet critical set of questions, starting with, "Why do we exist?" (hint: the purpose of the exec team is NOT the same as the purpose of the org). And the follow up question to that is, "our we spending our scarce time together on those issues that only we can tackle, and then pushing down the rest to our teams?" #executiveteam #leadership #projectnextleadership Forbes Business Council

PhD (Leadership) | MBA | GAICD | Strategic Thinking | Organisational Behaviour | Corporate Governance | Leader-Manager Development
In lockstep with the growing popularity of leadership, and the drive of Line Managers to rebrand themselves as *leaders* of the organisation, is a boom in people wanting to focus on business strategy. In many instances this is resulting in a corruption of language as people come to think that either strategy is same thing as planning, or that by strategising they are necessarily planning. However, planning and strategy have the same relationship as management and leadership. One is not a substitute for the other and each is most effective when complementing the other. Competent planning is a vital reality check on exuberant strategy, and sound strategy gives planning the direction to bring about change. #Leadership #Management #OrganisationalBehaviour #CapabilityDevelopment #GrowthMindset #Value #OrganisationalChange #TransformationJourney #PsychologicalSafety

So often, strategic planning does not fall short due to flawed strategies or leadership, but rather the failure to recognise the integral relationship between the two. The emphasis on soft skills or mindsets is often overlooked in strategic planning... The facilitating of strategic planning processes; the providing of essential resources; the clear communication of strategies; and the holding of teams accountable for results are all critical to success too! Strategic planning is not just about frameworks and roadmaps; it's about leadership mindsets and their proactive integration that can truly drive success. #business #leadership #strategy

Why does strategy fail? Quite often, it’s because strategy was never communicated. As with most organizations, the top leadership or senior leadership or Ex-co team meets, drafts strategy, gets aligned on strategy, returns to work and is surprised that no one else shares the same fire. In the end, you have an energy mismatch, a frustration on the part of the Senior leadership, but also for the rest of the organization. Learn More: https://lnkd.in/dtX3WEjG
