"New rule @ Cheers: End every retailer meeting with... 1) How did we do? 2) What we could have made it better? 3) How do we improve next time?" And to follow up that rule. Here's another rule: "Aim to end every meeting 5 mins early." I can't take credit for these ideas. I got them from Dan Mack's Elevation Forum a few weeks ago during the NACDS Annual Meeting. But I did write them down and we are implementing them. Why? Because meetings between retailers & suppliers are a product, which means the can and should improve over time. By having a supplier actually ask their retailer partner how the meeting could improve next time they are getting the partner's involvement in the end product—productive meetings. Now it's not just the supplier guessing at what the retail partner would want to hear in the meeting, or the supplier pushing their agenda, but instead the meeting becomes a collaborative work product between supplier/retailer that is improved each time the two teams meet. Want to have great partnerships? Start with being a great partner, and that involves asking your partner how to do that!
