In the 1970’s the BBC made a documentary about strange families in England. Naturally, my family were selected to be featured. ‘Look Stranger’ may hold some answers for anyone who’s ever wanted to ask me: “Why do you talk like that Susie?” “Why do you tell so many stories?” “Why are you in constant need of attention?” It’s also an extraordinary piece of storytelling and nostalgia. My family had a shop. We still do. We’ve had the shop since 1860. That’s what is says on the door. We are (still) very proud of our shop. It doesn’t feel like it should still have a place in 2024. It’s not on LinkedIn. There’s no #corporateculture Or #leadership, or #marketingresults And yet somehow, it has survived. I am told it’s not the ‘done thing’ to post about family history here. But I always notice babies, weddings and anniversaries go down well with people. And it’s nice to know I have my grandfather, mother, uncle and aunt all in one place. (My grandmother refused to have anything to do with it 😂) So if you like Norfolk/suffolk Or traditional businesses Or just want to see my mother showing off (leaning unnecessarily far out of a boat whilst smoking) Then you’ll enjoy this.
