✨ Physicians Regional Heart Center Milestone Yesterday marked our first Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair procedure. This cutting edge technology is available at our Pine Ridge hospital. During mitral valve regurgitation, incomplete closure of the mitral valve leaflets causes some of the blood to flow incorrectly through the heart,(termed regurgitation), thus reducing heart function. The interventional cardiologist delicately secures a clip onto the leaflets, thus ensuring proper blood circulation through the heart. This groin access procedure allows access to this treatment for patients who are at a high risk for open heart surgery.
