During our #Summerschool with the #IcelandSchooIOfEnergy I was asked to share some experiences of my days in #OceanEnergy. Coincidently, I came across a video, which we produced about 15 years ago on what I still would concider the only #wavepowerplant technology that has ever been operated successfully over a significant amount of years without significant downtimes. The video, which has gained an impressive amount of views on youtube, introduces you to the oscillating water column technology used here. I believe, it is worthwile to (re-)share this as a #RenewableEnergy Classic: https://lnkd.in/ev83mJe3 This technology was first operated by Voith Hydro Wavegen Ltd. in the so-called LIMPET (Land Installed Marine Powered Energy Transformer - I believe the name was first, the clumsy abbreviation came later 😉) on the Isle of Islay. Lateron, the technology was installed in #Mutriku (Spanish Basque Country), where it is now in operation since 13 years. Even though the plant only has a rated power of 296kW, it crossed the 2 GWh production limit in 2021 (https://lnkd.in/eRPpPuzd). Did you know that a 50-seat hydrogen powered aircraft uses 40% less energy compared to a turboprop using SAF, and 65% less than a regional jet-turbofan on a standard regional mission of 200 NM because fuel cell electric powertrains are significantly more efficient than gas turbines ? And when you consider SAF-Power to Liquid fuel production, the benefits become even more pronounced. Liquid Hydrogen requires significantly less green energy to produce than SAF PtL. This justifies the challenges of integrating hydrogen technologies into aircraft. Energy shapes the future of humanity, let's make the right choices on how we use it ! It was my pleasure to visit the #nigeriaenergy exhibition in #lagosnigeria . #Iceland: Qair Group will be attending the Arctic Circle Assembly, the largest network of international dialogue and cooperation on the future of Arctic, taking place from 19-21 October in Reykjavík. With major hydrogen projects being developed far from main markets, in regions where energy and land are inexpensive and abundant, transportation is a big issue.
