Did you know that a significant part of the infrastructure of our universities and colleges lies beneath the surface? Utility tunnels house critical services like steam, chilled water, electricity, water, and telecom systems. Much like the institutions they support, many have stood the test of time for over a century. While these tunnels help increase the life span of utilities, they also require retrofitting and renovation to continue supporting our educational institutions for the decades to come. In the Civil + Structural Engineer Media article “Addressing Aging Utility Tunnels at Midwestern Universities,” RMF’s Myles Moran, P.E., Project Engineer and David Mercer, PE, Principal share their insight on ways to optimize the service life of utility tunnels and prioritize deferred maintenance to ensure the future of campus infrastructures. To all my network, as much as I would like to say my son is a chip off the old, block academically he is far far superior to my achievements. I am hoping that some of my more educated contacts can assist him in navigating the tricky road of Masters courses as he comes to the end of his degree in Civil Engineering. He wants to pursue a masters in Project Management and has 2 choices, see below, 1 in Project Management and 1 in Engineering Project Management. Which would be the better choice? Maybe one of my Siemens engineering pals can help #siemens #mastersdegree #engineering #projectmanagement
I'm currently faced with a challenging decision regarding my academic journey in civil engineering. I have been offered admission to do both a Masters in Project Management program at the University of Liverpool and a Masters in Engineering Project Management program at the University of Manchester. I'm seeking insights from professionals in the field: which of these programs do you believe would offer the most substantial benefits for my career advancement? Your guidance and expertise would be greatly appreciate 😁 #civilengineering #UniveristyofLiverpool #uol #UniveristyofManchester #UoM #projectmanagement #engineeringprojectmanagement #architecture

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking Engineers have a particular set of skills that often put them in the lead of new technology initiatives and discoveries. For example, M.Emin Kutay, an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University is researching ways to enhance pavement technology to improve Michigan’s roads. They say there are only two seasons in Michigan: Winter and construction. Professor Kutay’s research will help to address both by creating software that can identify longer-lasting pavement materials and help civil engineers design materials that are resistant to specific types of stress and wear. This is just one of the many challenges that engineers work on, and we wanted to take a closer look at some of the other careers and opportunities available in the field
